This was my first time reading HG Wells and I found his prose quite accessible (I am someone who struggles to read older books because the prose is usually disengaging to me).
It dragged at the beginning but once I pushed through the plot moved quickly and it was quite entertaining.
The only familiarity I had with this book was the old movie from the 50s or 60s and I haven't even watched that through but it is quite memorable.
The ending was quite bleak but the stories that led up to it were really interesting.
