I received an ARC via Netgalley for an honest review.

I always worry about the second of a series, and thankfully this one did not let me down. This was another great book in this series. What I love most about this series as a whole, is just how much it feels like I'm reading something that absolutely needs to be turned in to an anime series at some point.

Normally I picture characters in most non-light novels as normal live action people, yet this series I see everyone in what I deem would be their anime character form. It's kind of amazing how Jule Kagawa accomplishes this.

The sequel felt overall a bit more darker and delved more in to different kami, yokai and spirits a bit more, which was a great thing. I loved when certain spirits showed up that I actually knew the history of.

I would say only one moment towards the very end was a pretty decent let down, just for how predictable and overused that type of scene was. Regardless it didn't take away from just how entertaining this book was, and I absolutely adore Yumeko, but I definitely have a soft spot for Kitsune, and Gumiho, type characters. If you loved the first book, you definitely don't want to miss this sequel.

I loved this book so much I'm struggling to figure out what I want to say in full. lol

This was just such a great read from start to finish. Miyoung and Jihoon were such a great pair to lead this story. I loved how Kat Cho wrote them so well and entertaining. It felt like I was reading a K-Drama the entire time.

A few other things I really enjoyed:

I loved how between some chapters the reader was treated to some history about gumihos, and particularly one character in the book. This did a great job of filling in the reader slowly, without feeling like an info dump some authors tend to toss in the readers' laps.

Cho also did a good job at throwing some twists in there that were completely unexpected, especially one key one I won't divulge here. I was like WHAAAAAAAAAT.

I also really liked some low key references to Korean entertainment, without actually being completely specific. There was a mention of the K-Drama, My Girlfriend is a Gumiho, and Hong Jin Young's song "Love Battery".

I can't wait for the sequel, and I think I have a good idea of how to tide me over until book 2. It just might be time to wipe the dust of my DVD set of My Girlfriend is a Gumiho and remove it from my pile of shame of unwatched K-Dramas because I need more gumihos in my life.

This book started off super interesting, then just gets so dull I almost threw it to the DNF. The end is a decent payoff, but a bit late as I didn't care enough when it happened. The highlight of this book, is that it does a good job of making the reader question whether the magic is real or not when it comes to Lacy and her mother.
