At 100 pages I have to DNF this book, which sucks because I was looking forward to this one due to its praise. While I found the androgynous race interesting and the role of genders, Le Guin's writing style is just not for me. I kept hoping for more fluidity to her structure and it never came. The book will make interesting observations and points, but in the most long winded way possible. Then there is the story and characters, and how the reader is just being thrust in to the middle of everything going on. I didn't find myself caring about a single character as things were happening. There's just no character buildup at the point I got to for me to really give a damn.

This is the first time I have DNF'd a book in a very long time, but when I started skipping pages to move things along I realized I stopped caring.

This is only my second DNF book, but I've been forcing myself to read this over the past hour. I thought I was intrigued enough to continue this series after I thought book one was pretty middle of the road average. I was wrong in my intrigue, and I couldn't muster the the intrigue. From the first chapter, I was like oh boy this isn't going well for me. I've learned not to force myself to finish a book I'm not enjoying. It's unfortunate because I have up to book 4 on my shelf. Looks like they'll all be going to one of my local used book stores or thrift stores.

At page 290 I have decided to DNF this book. It's not necessarily bad, but it is just not holding my attention. I find myself looking for distractions. The world building is interesting, but the characters for the most part aren't interesting enough. Farady is about the only one I can deal with. Not to mention, the naming of characters is all over the place, some sound modern, some as a fantasy novel, some like a bad video game protagonist.

Also noticed the series spans about 6 books. I'm definitely not enjoying it enough to commit to reading all 650 pages of this book, let alone the entire series.
