The weakest book in the series, which isn't a good thing for the finale. The book would be pacing along well, then lurch forward, causing me to go back pages and make me think somehow I skipped something. It had great moments, and it was great to have closure with Daine and the other characters, but it felt like this book was way too rushed in an attempt to keep it at a 4 book limit.

I'm not sure why I bought this book considering how much I feel zombies is such a tired trope in media lately. I'm glad I did because the book is an interesting take of historical fiction in the civil war time period, and damn if it isn't a lot of fun. There are quite a few twists in the book I didn't expect as things were developing, and it helps keep the reader engaged. Jane and Katherine are both great characters, and watching how their friendship unfolds and grows was great. The way Jane's idgaf attitude plays off of Katherine's more straight edge works really well.
