At the pestering of a friend I finally picked up Alanna: The First Adventure. This was a very fun read that I would never have guessed was written 30 years ago. I love strong heroines, so watching one actually grow in to one from from when they were a kid is great. So many intriguing characters around her too. I can't wait to jump in to book 2 tomorrow and see how she continues her growth in to the warrior she will become. 4.25 out of 5
This was a nice short and sweet story. We get to see how Binti is trying to branch out past her homeland to go to Uuniversity even if it means being ostracized. Unfortunately tragedy hits on the way and she must become peace keeper to prevent more. Binti is a really awesome character, and is easy to connect with with on many levels. This book also does a really good job of presenting social issues without being over bearing. I always enjoy that subtle touch that not all writers are good at. While less than 100 pages, I had a lot of fun with this book. I look forward to continuing this series. 4 out of 5.
I really enjoyed this book. Audrey Rose was a fantastic protagonist, and I loved how she was confident in what she wanted to do and wouldn't let anyone tell her a woman couldn't do it. She had to feign towards other interests at times, but no one likes outright drama. I also loved her interactions with Thomas, and their conversations were the overall highlight.
This book definitely isn't for anyone squeamish about blood, guts, organs, etc. They get graphic in many descriptions, so beware. I think the only big issue I had with the book was I thought it was pretty predictable about who Jack The Ripper was going to be. I only wished the clues weren't as obvious. Other than that, this was a fun read and recommended! 4.25 out of 5.
