So I struggled through this book, and I assumed it was because I'm still getting used to reading on my Kindle, but in all honesty I just never found it that interesting outside of the premise of how Jade works. I only really found one character in the book intriguing, which was Shae, but she wasn't enough. The rest of the characters just fell in to tropes that I could not latch on to, and actions and consequences were easy to predict. I was excited for this book, but let down it didn't do more for me. 2.25 out of 5.

2nd installment is just as good as the first. Apollo's humbling takes a gigantic leap forward, but not too much to stop him from making arrogant quips that resulted in my laughter. Honestly Leo is still my favorite character for humor in this series, and I'll be sad when or if he leaves this series. Sucks I have to wait until Spring for book 3, but I will read it when it drops. 4.25 out of 5.
I wasn't sure I would like this book, but it was a very interesting read. I had to remind myself that this book is about 45 years old, mostly because it never felt like it. The biggest complaint I have is that the chapters are super long, like 50 pages each. My favorite chapter dealt with a lengthy discussion about The visit, the Zone and humans in general. If you are someone looking for female characters in this book, you will be disappointed. Only one of the women sees any time and it is only in spurts, but it's a Russian novel from the '70s, and I can't be too surprised. 3.75 out of 5
I loved this book! Alosa is cocky, conceited, and sarcastic as one would expect from a Pirate Captain. I also love her constant banter with Riden. It's funny hearing the backstory filled in as time goes on, and something about her father is brought up and you're like, as expected stories do get exaggerated as time goes on. Then something happens and you're like wait... no way, that was true? That was the moment the book went from a 3.75 or 4 to a 4.5. I was immediately just pulled completely in, and it didn't stop. I can't wait for the second book. 4.5 out of 5.
After Asylum I was hoping this series would find its legs, and Sanctum did that. Throughout the book I was wondering who was behind what, and while one or two people were obvious, I wasn't expecting some. This book gets deeper in to the history of the Warden and the town, and kept me wanting to find out more. My only issue was what felt like a rushed ending. All this build up and it was just over, which just left me a tad bit wishing for more. 3.75 out of 5.
Wow I came away even more impressed with The Woman Who Rides Like a Man... This series has incrementally gotten better with each book. I loved watching Alanna turn in to a teacher to the young girls of the Bazhir and bring about change amongst their tribe. Also you learn Alanna's fears about her brothers from even back in book one are starting to take shape. Without spoiling outright, I'm glad a certain couple will never ship, and the correct one probably will. Now bring on the Lioness Rampant! 5 out of 5.
Alanna the first adventure was a fun setup to the story, but In The Hand of the Goddess is where the true fun begins. I had a blast with this second book, and watching Alanna and her friends grow. There was plenty of suspense, treachory, and even some love. There's so much I want to know more about, so I can't wait to jump in to The Woman Who Rides Like a Man to find out. 4.75 out of 5.
A light drop off for me, but not by much. It's hard to live up to how good book 3 was. Lioness Rampant was the ending I wanted, even if I did get worried about a lackluster finale at the end of the book. With only about 50 or so pages to go, I was worried this book would be one where the conflict just ended quickly wasting the buildup. Thankfull Pierce understands how to properly draw out the final conflict just enough that it doesn't wear out its welcome or come and go in a flash. As I catch up on many series I've missed, including ones I wish I read in my youth like Song of the Lioness, I look forward to jumping back in to Tortall in the future. 4.75 out of 5.
