I started this right after I finished the first book and ended up putting it down to finish some other things in December but I finally picked this back up on Jan 29th and I just finished it today omfg! (I didn’t get far last year so I really did consume this whole thing in a few days, again)
I absolutely adore the writing, the world building and just how bloody magical these books are!! The characters are so well written and the world is just so wonderful I really really hope that ending is still hinting at more to come, a new series in the world or something in the future, I really Hope!
Like book 1 though I did have a little issue with pacing at times but that may again just be because of the speed I read it, the plot though was so so well done I just loved how it all came together. I honestly really love duologies the more of them I read! No more middle book lul!!
Anyway I’m hoping to read more Laini Taylor in the future! I hope her other series is just as wonderful as this!
I can’t lie I was disappointed when I picked this up and realised it wasn’t about Kaye! This ones about a girl called Val...who honestly I thought was just...boring, I didn’t like her or really connect with any of the characters in the book.
Tbf this whole story was kind of just boring compared to the first one. It was enjoyable enough to get through but idk it was just slow and boring and not really all that exciting. The excessive drug use for most of the book wasn’t exactly great content either tbh...
Hmmm 2.5 I’d say, just cos it kept me interested just enough to read the whole thing and I do like fae so I liked those elements at least
I think I have just found my new favourite book, I’m not one for defined favourites usually just vague top 10’s but this? This is my favourite. Ever. This book ruined my life and I’m in love
I don’t think I’ve read a book that has hit me this hard in a long time and I can’t stop crying, I just finished it about 5 minutes ago and I’m just wow. I’ve been anxious about letting this book go, about getting to the end, about turning the final page on Addie’s story but now it’s over and I am just in awe. I absolutely adored every single second of this book, I don’t even know what I can say that hasn’t been said by others who could put it so much better than me!
It was so so beautifully written, so well done and that ending just....I have no words! I love it, I’m happy, I’m heartbroken I just wow. Addie? Luc? Henry? Just perfection, the characters, the settings, the timeline, everything about this book honestly.
I just don’t know what to say except I love this book with my entire soul omfg ahhhh!
This is wonderful! It’s such a beautiful collection of short stores with such amazing illustrations! It felt like I was reading fairytales!! The art is just so amazing I don’t even know what to say it added so much to the stories it was just beautiful.
I really loved reading little snippets of Cardan’s life (I love him so much after this ugh, I didn’t actually like him in the main series!) and honestly may have enjoyed this more than the actual series! The stories were really well written and interesting and really did read like fairytales!
If you loved the series I definitely recommend this and if you didn’t but you have a soft spot for cardan...you definitely must read! (Or if you don’t like me...you may just like him after this!)
I really enjoyed this! I really love how Holly Black writes faeries it’s just so well done and weaved together. The story was interesting and I enjoyed the characters. I got all 3 books from this series for Christmas so I’ll be reading the next one ASAP cos that ending has me intrigued!! It’s really interesting too to see the difference between this and her most recent fae series TCP and how far she has come from Tithe to her work today!
I really loved the length of this book too, 250 pages is a good length and the pacing for the book was spot on!
My only issue was I was listening to the audiobook and reading along, the audibook was the original version so there was a few yikes things in there and I was a bit taken aback but the 2020 edition has fixes and rewrites so my review is of the physical book and not the audio!
I’m gonna have to retry this sometime because I DO like the rest of the series a lot but 3* for this one…
Gonna be honest I skim read the last 40% of this in maybe 20 minutes cos this book exhausted me. I started this in May and now it’s almost Christmas I just can not anymore omg.
Listen I like the characters and the story as a whole a lot but MY GOD THIS BOOK KNOWS HOW TO BORE YOU! GOING OVER EVERY SINGLE DETAIL EVERY FEELING...ITS BORING! The plot points and what happened were really interesting but man it’s the delivery...I could not sit through another page of it I just could not so I skim read the last 40%...it’s so dull and mundane yet somehow still an entertaining story? Wild honestly. I think I just hate Louis narration
Even from just the prologue I knew i’d love this book. This was so so beautifully written. I honestly was left in awe at times at how magical this was. It was beautiful and heartbreaking and wonderful and shocking. Idk I’m just in love with the writing so so much and the characters, so well written, I’m so in love.
The world building was so so good too, I really felt there in their world, with them, like I knew all it’s in and out workings. I really want to dive into the 2nd book right now! I wanna know what happens!! The ending left me gasping! Poor Lazlo!! Poor Sarai!
My only complaint making it not 5*’s is that it took 200 pages near enough to get going !! I enjoyed it but damn man that’s a long time to get to the plot! That might just be a me thing though because I read this in 2 days but alas
VE SCHWAB’S BOOKS OMG, LEGENDARY! THIS WAS SO SO SO GOOD I CANT SAY IT ENOUGH! I READ IT BASICALLY IN A DAY, I ONLY HAD TO BREAK TO SLEEP WHICH I WASN’T HAPPY ABOUT BECAUSE I JUST WANTED TO KEEP READING! THE PACING IN THIS WAS IMPECCABLE, THE DIFFERING TIMELINES THROUGHOUT REALLY ADDED TO THE STORY AND I JUST HAD SUCH A GOOD TIME !!
I LOVED THE CHARACTERS, THEIR STORIES, THE WORD BUILDING, THERES NOTHING I CANT NOT PRAISE IT WAS IMMACULATE! (The justice at the end too was just ugh *chefs kiss* have to praise karma)
The way I actually tried to read this in the middle of a slump back in like April and thought it wasn’t for me...GOD IM GLAD I TRIED AGAIN IM COMPLETELY OBSESSED !!
VICTOR WAS SUCH A COOL CHARACTER TO READ FROM, MORALLY GREY CHARACTERS ALWAYS ARE BUT GOD HE HAS A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART, I WAS ALMOST DYING MYSELF AT THE ENDING OMGGGG!
this book honestly made me wanna retry Adsom (I wasn’t such a big fan of that series) because I’ve read 2 in a row I absolutely adored and I just love her writing and chapter style and I crave moreeeeee
This book is p a i n omfgggg. I enjoyed every single second of it but my god was it pain (in a good way but I’m dead).
I don’t know what I was expecting was going to happen in this book but this?? Was not it!! I loved every second, even though it was in a way a filler book to move events along to the final book, it really kept me engaged in the story and lord the characters!! I love these characters so much so this book really made my heart ache...the original 3...my heart, I’m so sad!!
This whole book just filled me with happiness to see the characters again and sadness to see what they were going through. Scary Grey is still my best boy and I really loved reading through his eyes. AND LIA MARA MY BABY I LOVE HER SO MUCHHHH (I really think her and Harper would make such good friends and I just pray it happens at the end of the series pleaseeee).
I’m so worried how this series is gonna end! I had the same feeling through the later half of the book, so much worry for my favs ahh!!
I've never read a book from Naomi Novik before but now I have the urge to go and devour her entire backlog, her writing is *chefs kiss*
This was so good! I loved every second of it, El was such an interesting character for the story to be told through and it was just so well done! I'm super excited for a second book I need my hands on it right now after that final line please omg!
The world building in this was honestly amazing, it was so well thought out and the story was great to go along with it. An easy 5*, I'm so glad I picked this up, I demand everyone who has this on their tbr's goes and reads its asap
