I'm very glad that I don't read up on most books before I read them because I always get a fun surprise when it goes somwhere I wasn't expecting. As this story went on I was thinking "oh I know where this is going" No I didn't. I absolutely did not. This was a great first installment of the Black Winter series and I can't wait to read the next to see what happens next. 

This was an alright read for me. The writing was good but it was more focused on the devolution of the human mind than I guess I was expecting. I wanted more sci fi and I didn't really get any explanations I had been hoping for either. 

I often wonder if I have too much religious trauma to be able to truly enjoy stories like this. It was written well and I definitely want to read other works by the author but the story itself was just ok for me because I found it incredibly predictable, mainly cause of consuming too much media about stuff like this not through any fault of the author
