I just couldn't get into this writing style. After reading a few reviews by people I trust, I've decided that this isn't worth it. The story was moving way too quickly and I just didn't care to follow Tessa anymore. :/

I’ve had this book forever. And, when I say forever, I mean, FOREVER. I bought this book at my eighth grade book sale. I am now freshman in college. I picked this one up because I was afraid that if I didn’t read it soon, I would not have an interest in reading in the point of view of someone so young.
I enjoyed this book but not as much as I think I would have when I was younger. I was very interested in what was happening in this book but I didn’t really enjoy reading from this perspective. I would have enjoyed it a lot more in a more mature voice. So, I’m pretty much saying that I’m getting older and I would rather read something written for an older audience.
I do think that Dear America books could be good as as a means of education for middle grade aged kids. I do not know if I will use there in my teaching environment in fear of bias, but I will be looking into it.
Good book, just not written for me.

3.5/5 stars. I'm really excited to see where this is going to come! I felt like this ended when it got to the part of the story that I wanted to read. I'm excited about the next volume :)
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is one of my favorite movies of all time. I've been wanting to read this novella for quite a long time. My sister gave it to me for Christmas and I couldn't wait to devour it.
Unfortunately, I didn't really like this story. It's a completely different story from the one I am in love with. I'm glad that I read it, but it was a let down.

Really different, but still really great! :D
This was a really interesting read. It was required reading for my Gender and Sexuality class. I identify as a feminist already, so I felt like the greater majority of this book was redundant to me. It was, however, really interesting to read about this topic :)

The main reason I wanted to pick up this book was because I wanted to watch the movie. I wasn’t very drawn to the book until I saw trailers for the movie. I thought that if the movie looked so appealing to me, the book would be just as appealing. (UPDATE: I just finished the movie and it was x10 better than the book.)
I really enjoyed reading Sutter’s voice at the beginning of the book. It was very original. Sutter seemed to care about so many people, but he didn’t really care about himself. I felt bad for him. However, as I continued reading, I started to like Sutter less and less. I realized that he was all an act. I had no idea who he was as a character because he just cared so much about how he came off to people. It made me kind of upset. I felt like I wanted something to happen with him, but I didn’t get that.
The storyline of this book kind of fell flat for me. Going into this book, I wasn’t very sure what the story was about. After reading, I’m kind of confused. For 75% of the book, nothing happened. Or better said, nothing important happened. I felt really bored for the majority of the book; that’s probably why it took me so long to read.
Overall, this book kind of fell flat for me. I should have gone with my gut and just watched the movie.

3.75 out of 5 stars.
I read this one because of my sister. She watched the movie adaptation of this graphic novel and then had to read the graphic novel itself as soon as possible. She loved it and then gave me a copy to read so I can love it as well.
I really enjoyed reading this graphic novel. The art was beautiful. The writing was beautiful. There was not a part in this graphic novel that I was bored or was not enjoying it.
I would have to say, however, the reason that this graphic novel did not get a higher rating is because I think it would have been a lot more beautiful in it's original language. It was originally written in french. Even though everything about this book was beautiful, I still felt like I was missing some of the original beauty that would have been saturated in the book in it's original language.
This is one that I know I will be reading again. I'm so excited to watch the movie. Really great read.

I was really confused with this one until the second half of the book. The reader is thrown into this world without any real world building besides the synopsis. I really enjoyed the art and the idea of the story, but actually played out, it wasn't what I thought it would be. I don't know if I'll be reading next one. The end was very intriguing, so I guess, we'll see :)
3.5/5 stars.

This book caught my eye when everyone on booktube started talking so highly about it. It really held my attention because I haven’t seen a buzz around a book by an author of color in quite a long time. I want to read more by authors of color this year, and I thought this memoir would be a pretty good place to start.
I was a little apprehensive to read this book because I have a really hard time reading books in verse. Every book that I have read that is in verse has not been my favorite. I’m not quite sure what it is, they just don’t sit well with me.
The prose in this book was really beautiful, it real like spoken word poetry. I really got into it at the beginning but, after a while, it started getting to me the way all books in verse do. When poetry is used solely to tell a story, you lose the poetry part and it just becomes a choppy story.
I really did enjoy the emotion that Woodson was able to share with the reader. It was the sole thing that kept me reading. It was quite interesting for me to read a memoir in this form. It was a very different experience for me.
In the end, I enjoyed reading this book. It wasn’t my favorite, but it was still a good experience.
