There is a feeling when you finish a really good book series, it’s halfway between joy and sadness. Joy because the series was amazing and sadness because it’s over. Currently, I am feeling that way because I just finished Joelle Charbonneau’s The Testing series. Graduation Day was wonderful. Finally I read a series where the ending had yet to be ruined for me and I was surprised at all the right times. Charbonneau is a great writer. I hope she continues to write books because this series was absolutely incredible. The character and plot developments were brilliant and the book was paced well. While it resembles The Hunger Games or even The Maze Runner series, it branched out in completely different directions and didn’t have a love triangle (I can’t explain how much I dislike those). I’m still in shock that I began from only somewhat liking this series to loving it. I highly recommend this series to all fans of dystopias.

Joelle Charbonneau, to my surprise, continued The Testing series well with Independent Study. Usually, I find that the second book in a trilogy is boring, but I was pleasantly surprised this time. I could hardly put it down and can’t wait to read the next one! I loved that it took a unique turn. Now I can’t compare it to The Hunger Games or any other book because its plot line took a twist that relates to no other dystopian book that I have ever read before (despite the fact that there’s a rebellion going on, those are in pretty much every dystopia). This novel is a bit violent and the characters in the story are placed in risky situations. Though, this series isn’t as great as other dystopias, like Divergent, it’s still extremely good. I definitely recommend The Testing and Independent Study to anyone who is a fan of dystopians. I hope Graduation Day (the conclusion) does not disappoint me.

Every time I walked into Barnes and Noble The Testing caught my eye. Maybe it was the fact it seemed similar to Divergent or the mere fact that it’s dystopian and I am currently obsessed with futuristic novels. Finally, I decided to purchase the book and I was surprised that it resembled The Hunger Games more than Divergent as I expected. I didn’t like The Hunger Games very much, so it would be expected that I wouldn’t like Joelle Carbonneau’s similar novel, but I did. In fact, I enjoyed it more than The Hunger Games. Another plus of this series is that all of its books have been published, so instead of waiting a year for the sequel, I have to wait a few weeks until I can go to a bookstore. While I liked the main idea of this book, there were still parts I didn’t like. I wish it was less violent and I also wish it wasn’t as slow and boring in parts. Though, overall I liked the book and I recommend it to fans of The Hunger Games or if you’re someone like me and just really like dystopias.
