I expected more from this book. After reading the description for this book I thought it was going to be a lot more exciting. It almost felt as if two different books tried to merge and it just wasn't working. That said I didn't hate it, I was captivated by the love story as I was always reading on to figure out who was the assassin and who was the prince just waiting to be mind blown when it was finally revealed. But then the reveal happened and it was just non-nonchalantly thrown on the page like we didn't just spend 300 pages waiting for it. One thing I did very much enjoy in the beginning was the POV change between characters and I normally do not like that but in this setting it was very well done and fit the story nicely. I felt as though the story almost didn't need to be as long as it was. It felt like it went really fast at first and then SUPER slow and then fast for a couple chapters and than slow again until the end. I can equally see why people like it and why some don't. I gave it three starts because there was quite a bit I did like in this book but I have no intentions of re-reading or reading the sequel.

The beginning of the book took a while for me to actually get excited about the book but boy oh boy it got good! The first third of the book was kinda eh but then it picked up and was like oh okay oooooo okay yes yes I like this a lot and then the last part was like OH OH YES THIS IS COOL I LIKE THIS! I normally hate books that are in the POV of more than one person but this was written really well and I actually quite liked it. I only gave it four stars because of the slow beginning and because one of the POV was from a character named Kaltain and I hated her POV and really her character in general (she's a meany poo poo). ANYWAY! I would totally recommend this book and I will be reading the rest of the series.

If you had any doubts about this series while reading the first book then do not fret they will fly out the window in this sequel. It was so good! One thing I could say that some people might be annoyed with it that sometimes it can be quite slow at times but it's so worth because all those slow bits have all the important details that make the ending so worth it. Speaking of the ending...WOWIE! I was not expecting that, although now that I know it makes perfect sense and going back there were so many clues! ANYWAYYYYY super great, I'm going to go dive into Heir of Fire now!!

LOVED THISSSS!!! The beginning was intriguing and then pulled a little for for a few chapters but picked up again very quickly and then you can’t put it down. I can’t wait to read the next one!!
