More than just Christmas

This book was the perfect read for the Yule season. It reminded me that the traditions created at this time don’t have to be traditional or focus on one religion’s teachings. There is true magic in this season.

Ilana brings her knowledge of food science and her own journey to losing 100lbs together to create a book that gives many insights into why we should be eating the foods we do and what helps with weight loss. The recipes included are also delicious!!! I’ve been following Ilana’s 2B Mindset program fully since Nov 2019 and I’ve lost 67lbs without feeling any kind of deprivation and without counting calories or using containers or counting points, it’s been the lifestyle change I needed.

So much happens in this book and Vi and Xaden’s relationship is constantly tested.

Dragon banter gave me life and new characters yield interesting commentary and mini sub-plots.

I have so many questions and predictions that I know won’t be answered even in the next book since the series is apparently going to be 5+ books in length.

The entire book was an emotional roller coaster ride where you can connect deeper with many of the characters and it may bring up other feelings for you too.

I would say that though this book is marketed to adults, it gives off more YA vibes than I think was intended. So if you’re looking for a violent or extra spicy book with truly adult problems, you will probably be in for some disappointment on that front. However, there is definitely more smut and violence than you would find in a typical YA style novel so you may need to take that into account too.

A YA fantasy that focuses on treason, espionage, rebellion and strength. The FMC also has two male characters after her affection: one who is an enemy while the other is a childhood best friend.

As a queen who has been stripped of her entire life and title, she is made a mockery of by the King and beaten for any wrongdoing of the people of her country do.

The FMC is fairly easy to like as a character but in typical teenager fashion, she can also be infuriating for some of the choices she makes. She is in constant conflict with herself, brought on by the trauma she has witnessed or been personally subjected to for most of her life.

Overall, a solid read and a good start to this trilogy. I will be giving book 2 a shot sometime in the future.
