This book was such an interesting read. I felt immediately intrigued by the characters and the choice to have the male character speech voiced by a male voice actor made it very clear who was talking.

The premise of the book led to twists and turns that I didn’t expect but overall I wanted to keep listening even when it was over. Characters, plot and setting were so well crafted that I felt immersed in the world Northwick created for her characters.

The final instalment in the Shamanborn series follow Sirscha from her point of view. It was clear as I was listening that the author’s goal was to wrap up loose ends.

Overall the pace was medium but it ebbed and flowed with some sections being extremely slow moving and others very fast.

Sirscha’s friendship with Seango was a major driver of Sirscha’s choices in the book. Her personal conflict between her magic, the soulless, and her duties led her to make some interesting choices which led her to the most daring decision to save the kingdom.

The sacrifices of all the major characters in the series made this book emotionally strong and even devastating at times for the reader or in my case, listener.

This book was filled with magic, inner conflict, tough choices, strong friendships, and political intrigue. The strength that Sirscha gains throughout the book and the series makes for a wonderful read.

4 🌶️

My first ever book by Lucinda Dark did not disappoint. Her ability to craft a complex world with a multi-class system that isn’t exactly what it seems on the outside left me desperate to pick the book up anytime I had to put it down.

Kiera’s strong, I don’t need a man mentality, made her the perfect FMC for this book.  She is able to adjust her abilities to fit the situation but also maintains her take crap from no one attitude, which sometimes gets her into trouble.

The three Darkhaven brothers are also extremely interesting as a group. Each has their own unique personality that is vastly  different from the other two brothers, which sets them up as an interesting trio for Kiera to be assigned to.

Overall, the plot moves very quickly but includes snippets of world building, introduction of new characters and complications, but also keeps the reader constantly guessing what will happen next or if we will find out certain details about characters or the plot.

There are several scenes of intimate encounters throughout the book but in my opinion the best one comes significantly later after an intense slow burn that left me reeling as to the choices of the two characters involved.

This is an adult novel with several trigger warnings and explicit scenes. If you choose to read this, please check the warnings first.

This was a fun YA novel in a dystopian society where the face and body you are born with becomes altered at 16 years old. The society has deemed your physical aesthetics from birth categorize you as an ugly or a littlie.

The struggles that Tally has to overcome once she meets Shay changes her thinking about getting the “pretty” surgery. She struggles with her own viewpoints from being raised in this society and the other information that is shared with her throughout the book.

The world that VB Lacey crafted in Long Live transports the reader into a world where chaos is starting to reign and a prophecy involving the 5 elementals.

Isla’s not exactly who she seems and the dark powers at work in the realm are threatening the stability of everything.

Isla works with four of the elementals to search for one of her family heirlooms: a dagger that can remove an elemental’s magic. Her adventures lead her on a path where she grows up and develops feelings for someone she didn’t expect. The magical system in this book was an interesting portrayal of elemental powers with what the elementals could do physically and mentally.

The book was a fun read with witty banter, an epic showdown and a devastating cliffhanger ending. Book 2 cannot come soon enough to bring readers some answers.
