I try so hard to like this one, but I never was able to get into it. A kind of womanly soap story that, I will get very judgmental here, made me thin of Sex in the City or The Real Housewives, which I never watch a single episode, it made me think of it by the conceptual ideas I had of those... I could have deal with the family drama, it was even good in some part, and the writing was okay, I was expecting worse from some reviews I had seen. What kill it for me was the characters personality. They were so dumb and empty I couldn't stand any of them. It had some moments but I wouldn't recommend it!
Merveilleux album jeunesse. Magnifique!
Not much worth to this book. Not bad, but a lot of drugs/rehabs stuff and studio works. Sort of a page from a biography, but we stay on the surface, not much depth to it, some good anecdotes. It made me want to go back and listen Megadeth non stop for a couple of days, which isn't bad in itself, but I wouldn't recommend it, maybe if you're a hardcore fan of the bands and don't want to miss anything about them...
4,5/5. Junji Ito!! Am I the only one who always yell this name in my head with a weird Japanese accent? Probably... Anyway, he is the master of horror manga and you should read him if you love horror, even if not a huge manga fan, or not at all, this author is worth the detour! The 2/3 of the book provides stories in the same "line" kind of a continuity starting kind of normally and becoming really weird in some sort of crescendo like Ito often does. The last ones are just short stories on their own, and honestly some are very average two are good enough, but the first part is definitely the best. Junito Ito (again just yelling in my head!) is now a sure read for me for anything new he will publish and I still have some back reading to do of his "less" noticeable work. I should get back to it then!
Does the Stephen Mitchell is the best translation like so many pretend? Hard to say honestly. I read four so far, and probably will stop here, and I can say without a doubt that it is a truly good one! I still very much like the Le Guin one, it was my first so I feel loyal to it (I'm a madly loyal person for better or worse) and I think it is a very easy one to get into, but this one is definitely a good one. I love the Tao philosophy it speaks to me and help me greatly since I start study and putting it in practice (still a lot of work to do, but I'm improving). Don't bother that much with which translation is the best, fine a nice one at a price you can afford and read this book. Slowly. Take time to think about it and put in pratice. It will change your life!
This series keep getting better. The balance between action and story is perfect and I'm slowly getting hooked on it!
This was fantastic! Less complex than I thought it would be. You will need focus and mind awareness to really read it, but if you a good reader don't be intimidate by it like I was, once you pick the way the book is builder, it's very readable.
I would be so curious to have a talk with the author to let him explain how he intent the message to be understand because there is many levels in this book and I think different way to interpret it. But overall, for me at least, it was a story of sadness, grief, fear, madness, insanity, obsession and passion. All that is intricated in a very unique construction. Don't read in on ebook and don't even search for an audiobook, this book need to be read on paper, it will be part of the story and the format is a much important as the content itself.
It remind me of Lovecraft horror in some way, because even if now-a-days people seem to focus about the cosmic horror part of Lovecraft works, Lovecraft essentially write on madness, on seeing, discovering or being in contact with something so terrible than you don't get out sane, whole, or intact. And this book has a lot of that. I've seem some seeing resemblance with Inception, and I agree with the multiple level of story inside a story. After all the book is a book, about a book, which is about a movie.
The darkness it has, the darkness it speaks of, is really interesting and worth taking sometime to think about it and even with the size and energy needed to go through it, this is a book I would definitely love to reread some day.
If you love horror, madness, experimental literature and want something unique and different, the House of Leaves is something you should seriously consider reading!

New month means I can finally borrow new titles from Hoopla!! I was waiting to read this one for some weeks now. It was good, building some tension from what me be the ending. Not sure how long this series is supposed to be. Always entertaining!!
A very cute book about finding the right person. Touchy love subject for a kid’s book, but the author handles it perfectly, you can read it and just leave it be or follow up with a discussion depending how you child react and of course his age. Entertaining and beautiful. Well done!
Might be a bit too many repetitions of Big Raccoon and Little Raccoon in the text. I understand the repetitive sentences to help children follow up or even read by themselves, but I find it annoying. If not, a casual adventure story for children, nothing great or bad about it. Kind of an average book!
