And Dover does it again. Scanned and old book without copyright anymore and put the scan sheet inside a .mobi and sell it 13$us. This publisher is a joke and I decide to make the most people knows about it. Just be aware! This is a lack of respect for the readers, the text, the authors and even the entire edition world. Won't buy or read anything from them again!
An interesting book by an author that lack a bit of experience. This book has an intriguing story/plot and decent writing for this type of book, but it also has some flaws in the characters development (those characters felt empty and just generic) and it also tend to focus and repeat some element of the world/story way too much and it isn't, unfortunately, about the best element. Like that obsession with the doorbell, and the race of the Alien, I mean we can call a planet Mhz2tk (I know it wasn't exactly that but probably close enough) but if we ever get in contact with the people living there, they would probably provide us with a better name for the home world and for themselves so we won,t have to call them Mhz2tkians. Not perfect, but clearly a young author, I would say continue working, maybe put more time editing and ask more exterior advice before publishing, but don't give up, because this is better then a lot!
2,5/5. Nope not for me. It look way to supernatural/fantasy (both genre and style I like) and the mixed with the super-hero comic wasn't something I enjoy. Original, a bit too teeny for me, and the mixed of genre that I didn't enjoy for personal reason. If this sound good try it, i think there's a public for that, I'm just not one of them!
I like the style, the humor, the absurdity behind it all! The Cave, by the same author, is probably a bit funnier and better, but we do recognize the style. Reading some page I just laugh a little, but was mostly imagine the young me laughing way more at some scenes. I think kids may like it! I did!
2,5/5. Calling that a surviving guide is just wrong. It's more an informative book about some wild and extreme climate place around the world. It present some tips and way to live there, but not really surviving, drinking water and stay cool in the Sahara is a positive attitude for sure, but not surviving advice. It does have good information about those places, some animals living there, weather, geographical infos, etc. Not a bad book, but badly categorized!
Like The Bees, from the same collection, this book delivers a cute story, well illustrated, with some informations about the Ladybug. Good!
A big melting pot of stuff about birds. We have poems on birds, craft works with birds thematic, activities/games birds related, informations on birds, feathers, and more birdly stuff, and so on. Lot of stuff but just felt a bit like all those were push/drop into the book. If you've kids who are fascinated by birds or just like them a lot that could be a good one. It does collected many things but the organization/edition just seem... like I said, a melting pot...
Really great! Amazing ending that just get me straight to the next one!
First I will start with a prediction, this book is not officially out yet, but it will gain a high level of love and interest when it will. I'M the third reviewer now, first two give five, but I expect it to maintain a 4,25 and attract lot of lover... Will see how it goes, maybe I will look stupid and it won't but I think there's a strong public for that kind of book.
For my appreciation now. I didn't enjoy this book that much because of the subject and the fact that it didn't resonate in me. It talk about child abuse, bad parenting, homosexual acceptance and a hard life for the character/author since it's kind of biography. So I didn't see myself in it and I read enough, and seen enough, of those hard childhood/life to really enjoy it. But event if I didn't was all into it, I still consider it to be a good book. It's well written, the author does not fall into self pity, she is resilient and just dell the thing like they happen and how she goes through it but no cheap drama here. It also cover a long period of time, mostly from the early 70s to the mid 90s and those were well represented. And of course I can't judge badly a story like that and I think it can help people living through similar or partially similar event to go over it. For me it was more of a 3/5, but I can't honestly give it less then 4/5 because all the stuff that were minus, were for personal reason. It truly believe this book has an audience waiting for it!
