Mixed feeling again with this one. The Noir theme is well presented by the story and the illustrations, but those illustrations are very sketchy and after a while you get tired of it and sometimes even forcing yourself trying to understand what is there. Mostly the same for the story, yes it's dark and start good but after a while you just realize it didn't go nowhere and just going round and around. It had good potential but lack a bit of finish for the illustration and some substance in the story!

I read this one in English. Well that was one hell of a comic/graphic novel. First of all the artwork is amazing, not just illustrations, but true art! Awesome! Second, the story is perfect. it as surprise, darkness, resilience, love, good characters and everything is tell perfectly. Top of the league! Read it!

First of all I'm not a big YA fans. I try some books from time to time because the synopsis look interesting and and want to keep an open mind about the genre. That being said this book for me wasn't good at all. I get and respect the message of diversity in it. But the characters... big lack of originality here they're all mostly the same and there is a ton of clichés about them. Bringing a character to life is more of talking about her hair, her skin or the color of her eyes all over again again and again. The story was good at first, kind of original in the setting, not the poor girl from a lower class part, but the setting we the courtesan and all that was good. But then you realize nothing happen... this isn't fantasy, this is romance, with a touch of fantasy (maybe that's what YA is after all because it often come to that...). In the end I didn't love it or enjoy it while reading and that a problem. I still think that hardcore YA fans and targeted audience may like it (at first made a typing mistake writing, lick it, which is a very funny mistake I though) because it's very typical of the genre but like I already said I didn't.

This isn't really what i had in mind when I start this book. I always start reading book kind of blind. If a cover, the tittle, or a small part of the resume get my attention, then I stop there and start reading, don,t want to be spoil or anything. Sometimes this make good surprise, sometime a bit less. This book is good. It is well written, I love the fact that the author place big word in t and explain them so I contribute to building vocabulary for young reader. The kids are likeable and it has a touch of humor that is well place and working good. But, don't know why, I expected something more fantastical, maybe even some magic or something. Which isn't really the case. We find ourself in a «realistic» family drama and it just wasn't what I wanted to read. I like reading it but I won't continue the adventure, for personal preference.

Beautiful pictures book that present the difference between two animals (metaphor for people) but through the story we get to see them shift their perspective from their difference to what unite them and what they have in common. Good books, perfect and important message, very well done!

4,5/5. Wow! A great surprise! I get this book for free on Netgalley like I often do, but mostly for children books or documentary, I don,t read much novel that way, but I want to do more. Anyway, all this to say that I was going in with no expectation at all. And it was great! A couple of «punch» are easy to see coming, but I got surprise more then once, so that's good. The writing, the rhythm and storyline are just awesome. Some characters are very good, others justed a bit unrealistic or just dumb in their action, so it's a bit harder to relate to them. The ending was good, but a bit too cheesy for my taste. But, in the end, this is a really good thriller that deserve more attention and should be read by the fan of that genre. On a more personal touch, I don't know why, but I just love those book about housewives, that get in trouble, and with dark secrets and all that, not really my style and I don't really know why, but those kind of story/atmosphere gets to me!

Second time reading it and still have the exact same opinion. A very good domestic thriller that we don't talk about as much as other one when it clearly has its place! Good reading time!

I read this book in French years ago when I was around 15 years old and it's a great book. So epic, great writing and really the foundation of modern fantasy. I think that every fantasy fan should read it, even if the writing is a bit old, it has still age quite well, and deserve every second it take reading it.

That being said, I decided this read to start back the series, in English this time, but while listening to it in audiobook. And this book made me realize there is two type of audios, those who just read the book (simple but they are the best) and those who add noises, sounds and audio «effects» (which I hate). This one was one of those but even sadder for me, it has put away all the description... very bad choice by the production, so instant of having someone reading the book to me, I find myself listening to a cheap act, like someone has just record the audio of a Lord of the Ring at the theater, which is mostly just dialog. So it was a bad audio book, the story is still epic and we have a decent idea of the main pot listening to it but it didn't do justice to the book and should even exist at all so I won't continue my Lord of the Ring reread until I find better audio or find time to go through them in physical book... Great book for sure but sad audio experience...

Really good! Better story evolution (still could be a bit more dense storyline but... it's a super-heroes comic so we have to be a bit indulgent) and the action was so amazing! Love it!

Great introduction to this new saga! This series is very original and unique by its setting and characters. There is also some humor that fit very well my own style so I'm liking it a lot. And an epic story in the making. There was a lot of hype about this one and I wasn't so sure at first, then I decide to have a look and I'm glad I did. Starting the next one soon!

Clearly Batman is lost and this one could be a great one or a very bad one It's a hard issue to judge on itself alone it will all depend what they do with it in the next one and then we well see if it's worth it or just a big waste of time. Not sure but optimistic!
