J'ai bien aimé ce livre qui est une sorte de deux dans un. D'un côté on retrouve la trame narrative seme-policière avec la narrateur, le livre interdit, son élève, etc. Divertissant et bien fait quoi que le tout demeure assez léger et ce n'est pas la plus grande qualité du livre (3,5/5 pour cet élément). Deuxième point, la riche et profonde réflexion sur la société, les interdits, différence/conformiste, vie privée/public, etc. J'ai vraiment adoré (4,5/5), cela m'a fait réfléchi, j'ai noté de beaux passages intéressants. Une belle découverte et un auteur que j'aimerais bien relire. Un solide quatre étoiles pour ce livre!

Ce livre me laisse très perplexe. Premièrement, la plupart de mes amis Goodreads semblent avoir adorées. Deuxièmement, je crois que le côté deuxième personne avec le «you» c'est un peu perdu dans la traduction française (J'aurais peut-être dû le lire en anglais...). Troisièmement, suis-je censé prendre Joe au sérieux ou bien c'est normal que le personnage semble tellement poussé, pas grotesque mais définitvement risible, que cela en devient ridicule? Et pourquoi une suite (j'ai découvert l'existence d'un tome deux en faisant ma critique...)? Ce livre à des bons points, dès le départ, l'action commence rapidement, le rythme est bon, l'écriture fluide et engageante, on veut poursuivre et voir se qui va arriver. Mais rapidement, le personnage, Joe, devient caricaturale, l'action terriblement répétitive, et Beck tellement énervante!! Le tout demeure très prévisible et s'étire malheuresement en longueur. Je crois que j'aurais plus apprécié ma lecture si ce livre aurait fait 300 pages, mais 500 pour ce genre d'histoire... un peu long. Je n'ai jamais réussi à prendre l'histoire et les personnages au sérieux. Le tout me donnait toujours une impression de parodie burlesque semi-absurde alors que je m'attendais à un thriller. Je donne un trois étoiles... et je me trouve même un peu généreux...

This a great book that mixed the behind-the-scene style with a bit of history. The movie was great, and reading it just made me want to watch it again (it's been a while), and this book is a very good «companion» to the movie. Of course it's a movie-book so nothing of a masterpiece, but it definitely goes beyond the picture of sets and casting and settings that we often see in this kind of book. Good and pleasant surprise!

Wow!!! I first came in contact with The Crow by the movie when I was a kid 20-25 years ago and this movie just let a strong feeling on me, probably watch it way to young... Anyway, when I found out recently that it was based on a graphic novel I instantly bought it and it was worth every cents and seconds! It is a sad and dark story about love, revenge and forgiveness. The story is marvelous but so are the illustrations, all black and white, but I really love the drawing style. A masterpiece! Read it (and watch the movie!!).

Wacraft might not have been the movie we would have wanted it to be but it wasn't as bad as some people say either. Hate it or love it this book did a good job a capturing the behind-the-scene and comparison between the games and movie. It has a lot of good pictures and did a good job at exploring and explaining the Wacraft universe and settings. I also enjoy the fact that the book it separate in two and that you can read it from the end to the middle or the beginning to the middle, both counterwise, presenting the human and orcs side. Decent book for this kind of work!

Not necessarily my style of comic book but I can understand the need and the interest person might have for this book. We get good looking illustrations and absurd humor storyline, with also some «darker» action. Too light/funny for my own taste, but like I said it has reader for that out there.
Personal liking 2/5, potential 3,5/5, final rating 3/5.

Good way to present those old Ripley's Believe it or not stories. First a short comic/cartoon story and then a brief resume of that «fact/story». Kind of urban legends sometimes amplify over time but most, if not all, have true historic facts attach to them. I always like those kind of weird stories and facts and creatures so for me it was a sure pick and I wasn't disappointed. If you like those like I do and like comic book this one is worth it, even if it's present in a more children like way!

3,5/5. This was good. Maybe nothing extraordinary, but a good tale of old times. There is no magic or supernatural here don't get caught by the mention of Salem in the title. There is superstition and fear in a new and difficult world. Dark but good! I like it!

Alexandre Jardin fait partie des rares auteurs que j'ai plus écouté en entrevue que lu. C'est seulement le deuxième livre que je lis de lui et j'avoue être assez déçu. C'est bien écrit, rien à dire sur l'écriture, mais l'histoire... Difficile ici de départager le vrai du faux. L'auteur dit que cela est vrai et fait un plaide en faveur de l'authenticité, mais en même temps... c'est tellement gros que c'est peu crédible... Que ce soit vrai ou faux cela demeure un hommage à sa mère petinent pour l'auteur, mais assez peu intéressant pour le lecteur. Je me suis malheureusement ennuyé!

2,5/5. A very personal style and great originality for the illustration, but unfortunately as far as the illustrations are unique, the story is a highly déjà-vu concept. Too bad because in term of drawing this artist is holding something!
