essjay's Reviews (635)

A re-read in preparation for the long awaited release of Red Side Story (which was originally going to be titled Painting by Numbers). I had really enjoyed what I'd read of Fforde's work up to this point (when it was originally released), but this was the book that made me realize I had a new favourite living author. I think everything about this book is a godsdamned delight and I'm so grateful we'll be getting more in this world.

I might come back and bump this up to 5 (which I rarely do after only one read). Is it too early to declare something as my favourite 2024 release?

Young Wizards, Zombies, and Hallowe’en, what’s not to love?!

This was really cute.

Fairly predictable but thoroughly engaging.

I will honestly probably forget everything about this in a few weeks, but it was fast and engaging.

I started this and almost immediately DNFed. And then before I knew it, I was a third done.
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

I don’t know how to talk about this book, but I loved it.

Lost in the Moment and Found is still my favourite of the series, but this came pretty close, and has given me the urge to re-read all of them in time for next year’s installment.
