Ahhhhhh!!! This was so good and such a fantastic series!

I loved this book and I loved this series. If you have not yet picked these books up, you are missing out. This is the final book in the series so I was really excited when I received the approval! These characters go through so much growth and change across all of the books and I admit that going into this one, I wasn't sure what was going to happen. Overall, I was super happy with the way things were resolved and I can't wait to see what May writes next!

I really enjoyed this book! The characters and the story were interesting and the world that Sebastian developed kept me engaged. I will say, having all 3 different points of view was great but I didn't love jumping around so much. I get why it was needed but just as I was getting into one of the character's stories, I was pushed into another one. With that said, it's probably more of a personal point of view more than a hit against the story. I did like seeing what was going on in each kingdom as each story fed into the last few pages of this book.

I'll definitely be picking up the next book in this series. That was quite an ending and I am going to need to know what happens next.

This is the first book I've read by Maddison Michaels but it definitely won't be the last. The Bachelor Betrayal is actually a second book in a series and while there were mentions of the characters from the first book, I don't think it took away from this book at all that I hadn't read it yet. With that said, I'm definitely going to check it out because the characters and their story sounds interesting.

This book focuses on Kat and Marcus. Both are hunting a killer called the Chameleon for their own reasons and they both have their own end game in mind. I really liked both of these characters. Kat took some time to grow on me but only because she came off as stubborn and somewhat inflexible at first. As they begin to work together, they both recognize there is an attraction but neither wants to marry so they do their best to not even consider the other but eventually Kat's blunt approach to saying what she wants ultimately brings these two together.

I will say, the romance in this one was well done. Both character's backstories help to paint a picture as to why they don't want to marry and they had to decide if they were willing to risk their hearts for a happily ever after.

I thought Michaels did a good job of building up the mystery around who the Chameleon was. In my book, everyone was a suspect and I thought the way it was tied up, was clear and brought everything together.

If you're looking for a historical romance that has a bit of mystery, some well developed characters, and a story that will keep you guessing, consider picking this one up! I'll be looking for more from this author for sure!

3.5 stars

If you know me, you know I love a good historical fiction and when you mix that with the YA genre, I'm 100% in. I grabbed this book for two primary reasons. First was the description but the second reason was the cover. I LOVE it.

Hazel is our main character and the thing she wants most is to become a surgeon. Unfortunately for her, as a Lady, that isn't something society is really willing to accept / allow. So when she comes up with a plan to sign up for classes / instruction as a man, she has the opportunity to do the thing she knows is the future for her. Unfortunately, she is found out but she makes a deal with one of the instructors. If she can pass the exam (without his classes), she will be allowed to enroll in University. It's a good thing she knows someone who can help her get bodies to study and dissect.

Jack Currer is a resurrection man and when he crossed paths with Hazel, little did he know things would quickly take a turn for him. As the city of Edinburgh deals with a plague, he and his fellow resurrection men are finding that their jobs have become more dangerous. Jack's friends are disappearing and when they do come back (not always) they are missing body parts. As he works closely with Hazel, they start to realize there is more happening here than they expected.

I loved the layers to this story. You have the class level issues (marriage, trying to survive, expectations of women, etc.) but you also have this other mystery of what is truly happening to these people disappearing off the street. I have to admit, that bit of the story was unexpected and it was a great twist to the story.

Ultimately, I enjoyed this story. There were a few things I wanted to know more about in the end like, how did Hazel's mother feel about everything...she was a major character in the beginning and drove a lot of the decisions Hazel made but then there was no closure. Too, her father is mentioned often but only as a catalyst to where Hazel is today, nothing noted around any of the choices she made. Jack!! I can't really say anything here but I'm a sucker for a happy ending.

If you're looking for a historical YA with a bit of a mystery and a gothic feel, definitely check this one out!

This is the first book I've reach by Michelle McLean but it definitely won't be the last. I really enjoyed this one and for anyone looking for a good standalone historical romance, I would recommend they pick this up.

The characters in this book were great. Arabella is the heroine and while she's not at all interested in society, she knows that for her younger sister's sake, she needs to do something to save her family's reputation since her older sister ran off and married a groom so she comes up with a plan. Make a deal with a Lord who is influential and can help restore their name but make sure that they only focus on the end game. Getting her sister married and whatever happens to be the bargaining chip with the man she chooses.

Enter Silas, the Duke of Whittsley. He doesn't have any interest in marrying but his grandfather has been harping at him that it is his duty to do so and to sire an heir forever. When a young lady literally falls at his feet and proposes a deal he would be silly to refuse, he takes a chance and makes a deal.

I liked both of these characters. They were well developed and both had their own insecurities. Because of the deal they made, they were both a bit hesitant to declare their feelings and of course, that created some angst but overall, I thought there was plenty of story to go along with the banter and romance.

If you're looking for a new historical romance to pick up, consider grabbing this one. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I love this series by Elizabeth Everett and if you haven't read book one yet, definitely go read it. Then pick this one up. I do think you lose a bit of the story if you jump right to this book. A lot happens in book one to set the stage for these characters and their path forward so if you choose to read only this book, just know you're not getting the full view.

Our main characters are Letty and Grey. They have a past history and while it doesn't come out right away, you know it isn't good. I really liked both of these characters. Letty is a smart woman but as a woman, the work she loves (math) isn't something she can easily be recognized for so she enters a competition for the prestigious Rosewood Prize for Mathematics and spends her days at Athena's Retreat practicing for her presentation. This just happens to be at the same time that she is asked to manage Athena's Retreat while her best friend steps away for a while.

At the same time, Grey has been asked to help Letty (which she feels she doesn't need) while trying to balance what needs to be done so he can accomplish his dream by becoming the director of the clandestine agency he works for. Unfortunately the timing couldn't be worse. When he faces some real decisions that impact the safety of the ladies within the Retreat and realizes he has had the wrong impression of Letty, he has to figure out what he wants more. The happiness of the ladies or his own.

I loved how the relationship changed for both Letty and Grey. They obviously have a past and when Grey realizes just how wrong he was, he doesn't even hesitate to change his view. With that said, he still has to figure out how to balance his feelings for Letty and those he has for his lifelong mentor.

If you're looking for a great series to pick up in historical romance, I highly recommend this book right along with book one. It has a great story and well developed characters who will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next.
