I enjoyed Last Duke Standing by Julia London and as the first book in the series, anyone can pick this up!
The characters were well developed and I couldn't help feeling Justine's pain. She is continually compared to others and in the end, just needs someone to support her as she is. William was great and I loved how they were with each other. His role of keeping an eye on the royal matchmaker definitely was interesting and I thought his letters were one of the best parts of the story as it allowed the reader to get that bit of the story that we wouldn't have experienced otherwise.
I also thought the story flowed well. It was a fairly quick read and I will definitely pick up the next book in the series as I'm curious to see what happens with Justine's sister.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the review copy.

I enjoyed The Rake Gets Ravished by Sophie Jordan. I'll admit, sometimes Jordan's books are hit or miss with me but the characters were interesting and the story kept me turning the pages to see what was going to happen next.
It was a fairly quick read and while it is a second book in a series, I don't believe you have to read book one to be able to pick this one up. I'll be checking out the next book for sure!

Kerrigan Byrne could probably write out her grocery list and I would love it. Probably.
I've been waiting on this book since I turned the last page of book one in this series and I have to say, I loved this book. Fiona is such a great character! She has turned an awful situation into something that keeps her going day in and day out. Her strength and motivation are what truly keeps the story flowing.
Of course, all the characters that surround her are well developed too and I love the tension between Fiona and Inspector Croft, and the Blade, and the Hammer. :) When Fiona gets pulled into a case to find out who is killing prostitutes from well-known brothel, she puts herself into their shoes and finds out just how dangerous the work is. I loved getting to see Grayson Croft in a different light (younger brother to Amelia) and how he engages with his sister differently from everyone else.
The story itself was well done. The build up of the mystery and the way Byrne is able to paint a picture of the character's surroundings with only words on paper was great and I can't wait to see where this story goes next...especially with the Jack the Ripper teases we had throughout.
If you're looking for a historical with a mystery / suspense edge, definitely pick this series up!

I really enjoyed The League of Gentlewomen Witches which is the second book in the Dangerous Damsels series and I'm not at all surprised as I loved the first book too!
This book follows Charlotte (a witch) and Alex (a pirate) as they chase down the amulet of Black Beryl. I really loved both of these characters. From their first meeting all the way through to the end of the book, they kept things interesting and I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. As the story picks up and these two go from trying to outsmart the other to obtain the amulet to realizing they need to work together...even if neither can really be trusted.
I loved getting to revisit some of the characters from book one too - that's always an added bonus in my opinion!
If you're looking for a historical romance with a bit of a twist, definitely check this series (and this book) out!
