Great book, second time reading this one. Went back loving it all the same as the first time. Stellar writing, and a story I really can relate to, on a whole lot of points. Just : a page got a bit too religious for me ; I, for one, only believe in myself, and that is already asking a lot at time.
It was truly just for like a page, but kind of trying to convince the reader that we need to believe in higher power ? That's how I felt the formulation was like, and I certainly did not like it.
But, it didn't stop me from coming back to this book and loving it all the same 😂

Hard to rate poetry. Felt some of it very deeply ; other parts, not so much. Liked it, did not fall hopelessly in love with it. Still a great read, I'd recommend it ! I have a feeling that if you've been in contact with domestic violence before, those poems will talk to you.

This masterpiece moved me to tears, made me clench my fists, left me lying on my back, gasping for air, and for some sort of sense in this mad world that can be ours, and absolutely was the author's one.

100% recommend this absolutely world-shattering piece of literature, shockingly good in the writing itself as well as the story. Took a quarter of a point out for the "transition" part, the one before college and after ; it feels, to me, like it was suddenly rushed, and I kind of wish it would have lasted a bit longer. But that's personal, and that does not make this book any less of one, impressive as heck, terrible recounting of very horrible events, set in a universe (the Mormon's one) that you discover through a very thorough, deep view point.

I can definitely say and see that this book being everyone's favorite makes sense. It's a great, unfortunately realistic view of what happens under totalitarianism, and, oh so not surprisingly, also happen to be a reflection of our own "modern society".

Saw the end coming from a hundred miles away, and still, managed to surprise me on the way it was written. Good to notice that the writing itself isn't the easiest, especially when you're not a native English speaker, and yet it remained a true pleasure to read this book.

Found it a bit slow at times, and if it made me think a lot, it's still not a world-shattering piece of literature, FOR ME ; which is why it's not getting the full 5 stars.

After having read "I'm glad my Mom died", I got this masterpiece recommended to me, and went on to read it, expecting a similar type of story or writing.

It was truly not.

This book moved me to tears at times, brought me unending anger, thorough joy and hope for whole chapters. The whole and entire emotion thesaurus went through me reading "The Glass Castle", and I'm both utterly impressed by the writing itself and by the story it's telling. This was a stellar piece of literature and one absolutely remarkable life.

Glad I read this.

I entered this book the careful way. Everybody's was praising it, which to me is usually not a good sign... Turns out everyone was right on this one !

The writing is very pleasant, and the story, extremely unpleasant, because that's the whole point of the book. Found it highly interesting, read this book in a night, literally could not put it down. Thanks to Jeannette McCurdy for having had the courage of writing then publishing this book !

I'll give this book 2 points because it did manage to make me quit for a day... And only two for that same exact reason.

I am not convinced, and that is an understatement.

It's mostly brainwashing (great if it works on you !), and thoughts of the author than can be summed up this way : addiction does not exist (???), it's all in your head, it is not physical because it can't be.

I end up with great high blood pressure everytime I try to quit, crying on the floor for basically five days, so I'm quite offended to read such dumb and very not scientifically proven bullshit.

Wish it would have worked, though.
