Filled with mystery and myth, this is a thrilling tale of how one girl’s determination to find her sister leads to uncovering the nightmares hidden within their community. I enjoyed the choice the author made to jump back and forth in time as the story unfolds. It allows the reader to see the story from both Day 1 with how it all began, and then also from the day of Grace’s disappearance and the start of the investigation.
Though there are aspects of fantasy, there is no doubt that this novel is rooted in real life horrors. For years there has been an epidemic of missing and murdered indigenous women, and the efforts to find them are often underfunded and hampered by overlap in legal jurisdictions. The story of Anna and Grace is one of strength and determination, and I’m so very glad I picked it up.

I really think Timothy Egan could get me to read just about anything. This book sucked me in and I'm so glad I decided to give it a shot! I, like many, read Grapes of Wrath in high school, but this was an entirely different side I'd never much thought about - what happened to those who stayed?

I really liked the choice to split the POV in this book, and while Jack's chapters were an interesting perspective, I appreciate that 90% of the novel was Anita and Raquel's thoughts. Though I wanted to yell at Raquel *so much* during her later chapters when the mirroring really became evident to me (but not yet to her). Overall, glad I snapped up a library copy of this one on publishing day!

I had been waiting to read this for months and it definitely lived up to the hype! Thoroughly enjoyed Tress’s adventure and loved the world building Sanderson did. Beautifully written, I’m looking forward to reading more from the Cosmere.

Every year, all of the sixteen-year-old girls in Garner County are sent off to undergo their Grace Year. Alone in the forest they have one year to release their magic before they’ll return, no longer able to tempt and lure and manipulate with their powers.
Her older sisters, her mother, they’ve all gone through their Grace Years and, as is customary, say not a word about their time away. So, with Tierney’s Grace Year finally here, she can do little more than hope that she’s prepared enough to survive what’s to come.
Honestly I don’t know what to say other than this was WILD. Want to be a ball of frustration and anger and pride and love? Want to have your heart hurt? Then this just might be the book for you! 💕

Did not expect this story to go the way I did, but I appreciated the added level to the usual 'k-pop trainee cat fight' story. It would have been easy to tie a bow on this one and be done, so it'll be interesting to see where the next book in this series goes.

Double the romance, double the fun! This was a completely new storytelling style for me and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
Caroline (our author) and Lady Rosamund (our main character) do not quite see eye-to-eye in how this story should go. Add in a dashing bodyguard, a charismatic childhood friend, and a charming book editor and you have a delightfully chaotic adventure. Overall a sweet and funny read, and I wouldn’t be mad about a sequel in the future 🤭
