Gwenda Bond's Fallout caught me unprepared last year. I couldn't have expected that what seemed to be a comic book novelization—not quite, but pretty close, as far as genres go—would be so fun, and yet Fallout was one of the best YAs I read in 2016, if not ever.

Double Down is Fallout's successor—its sequel—, and it's pretty great at it, too! Once again, Lois Lane brings us into a teenage thriller which shows us she is the teen who will become Metropolis' best reporter. This time, we also come to learn a little bit more about her Scoop friends, and come to love each and every one of them. Is there going to be a third book in this series? Make it happen, @dccomics.

Plus: Gwenda Bond writes and understands 'SmallvilleGuy' way better than lots of other people who write him in other media.

Fiquei com medo de dar três estrelas pra esse livro porque... bom, três estrelas são quase um TABU por aqui. Mas, fazer o quê, três estrelas são o que eu sinto por toda As aventuras de Prydain: histórias legais, muito divertidas, gostosas de ler, mas só. Não têm, pra mim, nada de mais, não mudaram minha vida — bom, o filme mudou, in a way, mas aí é assunto pra outra conversa — e não busco nada além disso, mesmo.* Sento pra ler, acabo rápido, me divirto, fim. Amo. A história, inclusive, às vezes passa tão batida que parece que estou lendo uma adaptação de algo maior. Well.

Em O castelo de Llyr, a única coisa que me decepcionou um pouquinho foi que eu queria ter visto mais da Eilonwy, minha princesa Disney** tagarela favorita. Quando vi o título, pensei que o foco seria ela — e é, de certa forma, mas não do jeito que eu gostaria.

A princesa passa 90% do livro sequestrada/desaparecida, então... meh.

Segue em frente, tem outras princesas. Ah, talvez seja válido comentar que fiquei um pouco confuso, no começo, porque não me lembro/ava de quase nada dos dois primeiros livros, mas dá pegar rápido no ritmo e se acostumar logo. Preciso parar de criar hiatos tão grandes entre livros de uma mesma série.

Um salve pra tradutora, aliás; a tradução tá 10, mesmo sendo formal demais em certos pontos.

É um livro bastante curto — não chega a 100 páginas — e bem gostoso de ler. Parando para comparar com outro livro do Zambra, acho que gostei mais de Bonsai, mas A vida privada das árvores ainda vale bastante a pena. Alejandro Zambra está aí pra provar que você não precisa de 500 páginas pra contar uma história boa/legal.

I'm kind of torn with this one. On one hand, it's beautiful, the prose is borderline poetic, and it features a queer, well-built relationship between two demigod soldiers; on the other, it's confusing at times, having me frequently wondering what was actually happening on a scene. There's not much of a plot either, and the climax is almost hushed—though I do understand it wasn't the focus. Overall, it was a strange read, both weird and marvelous. I added this book to my list of science fiction stories to read in 2017, but it's not much of one, not really: its SF touches are very subtle, present I believe when the biology and genetic of Gods are briefly commented.

I picked this up hoping I would like it way more than I actually did. I didn't hate it, but midway through I found myself not caring to what happened to those characters. Ben and Tim are... boring, dislikeable, and we only fall in love with Jace because he has literally no flaws—

and then he dies, in a huge, and I mean huge, what-the-fuck-is-happening plot twist, just so Ben and Tim can get together in the end. Who even wanted that to happen, really? No one, that's who

Luckily, this is an overall quick,* pleasant read, and I didn't have a bad time going through the story, so I don't think I should give it a low rating. It's okay. By all means, don't expect your next fave, but it's okay.

Não esperava que esta fosse uma leitura tão boa quanto foi. A história flui bem, os personagens cativam — com a exceção do protagonista, I don't think I care for him —, o final é um choque para quem não o está esperando. Tive uma pontinha de incômodo com

. Como não vi ou não me lembro de ter visto nenhum dos filmes, não posso fazer comparações, mas confesso que fiquei curioso. Não, não pela versão do James Franco... a do Tim Burton também não conta... isso, essa daí! Obrigado.
