Very short and very beautiful, Brothers is a grieving story. The overall sadness of this book is almost palpable, and I found myself close to crying before I even got to Maus's part of the diary. It also has a very nice writing style, simple and poetic and pretty—I can't help but wonder what it feels like in Dutch.
Everything happens so fast in the play that I caught myself wondering if it wasn't simply meant to be a musical. It is short and powerful, and I can only imagine how it was received in 1891. Its message, of course, is still very important today.
How interesting is the experience of reading a book so iconic it inspired lots and lots of the works you read and watch and like on a daily basis? Dune is... an experience, there's no other way of putting it. It is an experience. It took me a good while to get into it, too—200 pages or so—, but I could finally reach a point where all I could think about was Dune. I certainly can understand why it's a classic, and I can't wait to read its sequels—well, actually, I can... I'll probably wait a while.
Do you know what I really want to do, though? Watch SyFy's Frank Herbert's Children of Dune with James McAvoy. Yes. Thank you.

I'm so proud of my son Nate Foster, y'all. This book was every bit better than its predecessor—which isn't a bad book, not at all, so there's that. Tim Federle has something really special in Five, Six, Seven, Nate!, and I truly can't wait for the next one. Also, yay for gay romance!
I missed Freckles though. I think I understand why he wasn't there, plot-wise, but I missed him all the same.

I thought I'd hate the artwork, but it feels... right, I guess? I don't know, it fits. As for the story, well, it's Jeffrey Dahmer (fun fact: I didn't know it was Jeffrey Dahmer until today... I thought this was a fiction story... maybe based on something... I'm... *sigh*), but in a different, bizarre, sad light. Sad is certainly the keyword here. Could Dahmer have been saved? Could serial killer Jeff Dahmer have had a different life under other circumstances? Maybe. We'll never know.
This is... disturbing.

Tentando voltar a ler o Sítio.
