It's rare that I willingly pick up a historical fiction novel, but I was entranced by the premise of this book. A woman crafting poisons to aid other women and a modern day historian working to sort it all out? Count me in! The chapters are short and keep you engaged, while the atmosphere beautifully builds.

My goodness was this a tasty book! Be warned, this is yet another release that you should not read on an empty stomach. I came out of this craving bulgogi and banh mi. I loved how Jessie grew throughout the story from a tentative banker to a forceful entrepreneur. The relationship between her and Daniel was an adorable enemies to lovers slow burn that didn't suffer from the classic miscommunication issues. Overall a delectable story with a splash of romance.

This is a quick read that you won't want to put down and I'm still finding myself thinking about the story. If you haven't read The Silent Patient, you can still fully enjoy this book. There are just a few little easter eggs for his previous work. I enjoyed the elements of greek mythology and tragedy that were incorporated into this book and felt that they greatly enhanced the story. If you're looking for an atmospheric dark mystery to enjoy on a rainy day, this is for you.

This book was a dreamy experience that may leave you devastated. I even shed a tear or two. I loved the concept of a phone to the afterlife, especially with the terms and conditions that came with it. Julie and Sam were such vibrant characters and I loved watching their relationship grow and change in the aftermath of Sam’s death. Wonderful job, Dustin Thao.

This was a nice mix of a horror story and fantasy novel, set in a creepy manor. While at times I had issues understanding the lore of the world, I loved the relationships that surrounded Andromeda and how they organically built. Plus it’s hard to argue with a cutie like Magnus, even if you can’t look him in the eyes.

This is an intriguing book that toes the line between suspense, mystery, and thriller. I loved Faye's confidence and how her backstory built. One con for me was that I didn't realize this was a series, so jumping right into Book 2 may not have been the best choice. However I did feel as though it summarized the content of Book 1 well enough that I wasn't too confused. Fair warning - there's a fair amount of sex and sexual content in this as well as a number of trigger warnings (including but not limited to rape, abuse, and suicide).

This is a great story about love, expectations, and the art of cosplay. I loved all of the subtle nods to conventions and craft stores, as well as the general format of the story. While Raff was a touch dramatic, he made up for it with wit and creativity. Very cute book for my fellow nerds.

oof.

That's my feeling about this book. I think as a whole this was better than The Gilded Wolves, but I had some issues with the characterization and puzzles. Severin spent most of the book being a sad sack and it was just annoying. However it heavily featured my queen Zofia, so most is forgiven. The characterization of the crew was explored further here and it led to deeper moments that I loved. This book was addictive and chilling and I cannot WAIT for The Bronzed Beasts.

I flew through this book and was more than willing to suspend my disbelief for the sake of a well-crafted plot. I loved being in Abigail's head the entire time as she wrestles with her infidelity and slowly unravels. I thought that some parts were a little farfetched, but it was still ultimately an excellent story. Be prepared for a wild ride with this one.

This was a high-octane conclusion to the series, and I'm honestly quite satisfied. Things certainly got a little weird at times, but it's a vigilante series so I'm willing to just let it slide. I'm glad that MG's story ended the way that it did and I was happy to see some twists that I didn't see coming. Overall a really fun book, great for fans of comics, cosplay, and drag queens.
