After finishing the book and comparing it to the synopsis I have to say I wasn't expecting the story to go the way it did. I didn't think the victim would be that character, I assumed maybe the husband or mother. Even afterwards I suspected everyone but the actual killer. Everyone else had a motive except the killer. Unless they had one that we never discover?
I think the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because of the reveal. I feel it was for shock value more than anything else and it definitely was a shock. Also the last page set a few months later left me with more questions I don't think I'll ever get answered.
The writing itself had me hooked from the beginning. I usually don't like to read thrillers too late but with this I had to know what happened. I suspected too many characters to have to wait. For a book around 400 pages I devoured it within a few hours.

Edit: After thinking about it for a few days I decided to give it 5 stars. The book stayed with me more than others have.

It's safe to say Claire Douglas is a favourite author. This is my 3rd book and again it's five star. I've found it best to go into her books blind. Makes me more intrigued the more I read.

Claire has a way of captivating me from page one. The opening sentence,
'Its a dreary afternoon, just after lunch, when I finally find out that you're dead.'
got me hooked.

As this is my 3rd book by Claire I knew to suspect everyone, even the neighbours. I had figured a motive for majority of the suspects I had. Except for the person who actually did something. But looking back I should of seen a motive.

The plot twist at the end I didn't see coming, I should of known it wasn't a simple murder. There's always more to the story.
The atmosphere was creepy at times. Frankie getting mysterious letters, then hearing a baby cry and also seeing who she thinks is Sophie' s ghost. Claire did an amazing job at making the scene dark and mysterious.

*Received a copy from Net Galley for an honest review*

I wanted to like this since I've had a copy for so long. But I just couldnt get into it at all.
I kinda wish it was just a missing girl story without any attempt at supernatural. The added element ruined it for me.
I also had trouble caring about Lizzie or any character to be honest.
I found the story lacking and not very memorable.
