sorry lizzy dent i just do not give a fuck about astrology

this book is the definition of matching each others freak……….

the author bravely asked the question, “what if Joe and Love from You season 4 actually worked out in the end” and DELIVERED baby

also if you haven’t yet you absolutely need to listen to this audiobook that shit was truly a performance

the amount of times i almost stopped listening to this solely from the truly ridiculous number of “christ feckin jesus”s i had to hear…………… thank god i didn’t bc that second epilogue was my personal sistine chapel

Clara Millen lives for forward process, she does not like to slow down, and she certainly doesn't know how to relax. So when her boss foists a paid sabbatical on her to combat her impending burnout, Clara is stuck figuring out what to do with herself. It just so happens that her old summer camp friends are hosting their annual vacation to the campgrounds at the same time, and Clara hasn't joined them in years. Upon her arrival, she's slapped in the face by reality when faced with the fact that she doesn't truly know her friends anymore. And to top it all off, the owners of the camp are selling the property to developers. Clara, craving something to keep her occupied, decides that she will make this The Best Summer Ever for all of her old friends. Even if it means having to be in close proximity with the boy she spent her entire childhood trying to one-up. Perhaps they can finally find a way to release all of their pent up frustration that comes with the constant competition between the two... And maybe, just maybe, they could have a shot at a real future this time.

I don't have much to say about this other than it was so much fun and a perfect summer romance read. I loved Clara even though I couldn't relate to her totally (I love myself a good vacation) and Mack was such a cutie pie book boyfriend. The only thing I had trouble accepting was that Clara could actually achieve such a drastic change at the end of the book. It felt more like the beginning of a self-discovery story than it did a conclusion to their journey, and that just kind of left me wanting more.

2.5 stars

This was so ridiculously average that I've already forgotten what the plot was. I do know that I relatively enjoyed it, though. I would've liked the guy (forgot the character names too oops) to be more of a himbo. I love a ginormous man that's just a fucking idiot. Think The Lost City with Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum. That's what I was hoping for.

I was super excited for the premise, but the book itself didn't live up to its potential. I'd definitely read one of her books again, though.

Okay omg this book..

It's hard for me to rate this because some of it was heavy on the internalized fatphobia and clear projection of her insecurities. I'm fat. I live it. I don't want to spend 300 pages inside the head of someone that's constantly worried about whether or not people will care about her weight.

On the other hand, soooo many romance books with fat leads written by fat authors read as like fan-fiction the author wrote about themselves (if that makes sense), AND THIS WAS NOT THAT!!!!! One example in particular that I can think of off the top of my head is Amy Award's The Cock Around the Block. It just sounded like she was fantasizing about what she wishes men would say to her to the point that it felt like the MMC was fetishizing the FMC's fatness. That sounds so mean, but it's just how I felt while reading it.

The Next Best Fling, though, felt much more realistic in terms of how a partner will look at one another in a HEALTHY relationship. Plus I just love me a big, sexy football player. I do wish we got to see more of him at his new job as a coach at the school, but the author would've had to put his POV in the book to make it happen, I think.
