When Laura realizes that she’s switched suitcases with someone at the airport, she opens it to find clues… and realizes this suitcase belongs to her perfect man. In her quest to find him, she pops in to Ted’s cab. He drives her around the island and Laura ends up learning a bit more about the man behind the rugged appearance. The unexpected-but-expected love story was sweet, and in a really fun setting.

The Hike started off strong and I was hooked for the first half, getting to know this crazy group of friends setting it for a Norwegian hike. Like I would be in a similar situation, most of them were vastly unprepared and some of the comments about sleeping bags and camping in general had me LOLing at the relatability as someone who is A-OK avoiding tent camping and the possibility of getting lost in the woods. The second half of the book dragged a bit, and I think the book really could’ve been shorter. It also got predictable, but it was fun to watch it play out through some pretty crazy scenarios!

This is the perfect series to listen to on audio - the podcast episodes strewn throughout the book really elevate the experience of this thriller while listening.
Dark Corners revisits Rachel Krall, journalist and podcaster from Night Swim. With a new case, Rachel finds herself in the middle once again, and this time in the middle of a bunch of influencers. I do have to say, influencer storylines are something that I tend to struggle with. While this didn't hold my attention as well as The Night Swim, I do still love Megan Goldin as a thriller author!

Friends… I know a book about someone’s husband turning into a great white shark sounds weird, but this is honestly one of the most beautiful books I’ve ever read, and one I’ll be thinking about for a looooong time.
In an incredible debut from Emily Habek, you’ll find not only top-tier writing - like legitimately incredible - but also topics that will pull at your heartstrings: the difference between loneliness and being alone, regret, love, hope, mental health, what makes a family, what make someone human. While the obvious focus is on external transformation into an animal, this is also a really lovely narrative on internal transformation and change over time.
In Part One as Lewis is turning into a shark, I was reminded of my Grandpa’s journey with dementia: losing himself bit by bit, becoming more aggressive, heading to an uncertain future - but having my Grandma there for it all. While this may hit you differently, there’s something in Shark Heart for everyone. I highly encourage you to pick this one up even if it seems out of your comfort zone. I really don’t think you’ll regret it.

I really enjoyed And There He Kept her - it was so spooky and a really well-paced thriller. Where the Dead Sleep is Ben Packard Book 2, so I was very excited to read it, but unfortunately, it's just very slow. DNF @ 20%.
