A solid novel. My biggest issue was that the writing felt a little off and forced. I can see how you could be deceived into thinking that's it's descriptive and poetic, and some of it truly was. However, I think it's a mistake upon the editor's part that some descriptions pulled me out of the story because they felt so descriptive that it didn't make sense.
What I enjoyed was the plot and the characters. It's definitely a a mix between Laini Taylor's Daughter of Smoke and Bone and Sarah J Maas' A Court of Thorns and Roses. Dramatic, dark, romantic, intricate fantasy world. The setting is an India-like setting that eventually transforms into a high fantasy world full of mythology and that was super interesting.
Because of the setting, the main character is described to have dark skin, however this isn't pointed in most of the other characters, which makes me question the real diversity of the novel. (another fault of the editor in my opinion)
I will definitely continue to read this series because I did enjoy the characters, world, and plot line.

What an awesome ending to an awesome series! It was so much fun!

I REALLY enjoyed this! If you like Brandon Sanderson, it's a little different then his usual high fantasy stuff but it's GOOD. It's more of a sci-fi, good if you liked The Maze Runner, The Young Elites, The Darkest Minds. Only thing that annoyed me a little was that I figured out the big reveal at the end less than half-way through the book so I wasn't really surprised by the reveal(s). However, I did get really excited when they finally were revealed so I guess it's chill.
I can't wait to continue this series! (series or trilogy? idk)

well... DAMN

I was so excited to read this because I really enjoyed Tintera's Reboot duology. She's so good at developing a world and characters, while also getting some good romance in there! Can't wait for the rest of the series to go on, I think there's a lot of potential there, especially with the ending. I've got quite a few predictions as well. This is just a fun, enjoyable, (also suspenseful) read!

I'm not sure exactly why, but I'm surprised at how much I enjoyed this. It's super fast paced, the characters are all distinct from each other, and, despite the promise of a love triangle, I enjoyed the bit of romance.
The love triangle was what really put me off, to be honest. Most of the time, I feel like love triangles are something the publisher has asked of the other to get teen girls to pick up books. But the way it was done didn't feel thrown in or out of place. It was well-thought out.
I will definitely be continuing this series, I can't wait to see the world expand and see more plot points flushed out.
I'm not exactly sure who to recommend this too... definitely anyone who loved the Grisha Trilogy or Six of Crows. Maybe even Throne of Glass. I just think it's a great debut novel and I can't wait to see the series grow.

Edit June 19th, 2016.
Changing my rating to 3ish stars because looking back this was a bit predictable.
