I’ve been listening to these on audiobook because I never read them all as a child. This one was my second least favorite so far. I think the audiobook was a bit hard to follow. If I ever tuned out for a minute I would be totally lost and not sure what was happening.
This was going to be 3 stars but that SHOCK ending earned a star from me. I am in complete shock and don’t know how to feel. I never thought it would end like that and I’m really surprised considering it’s technically a children’s book. That said, I enjoyed reading this series and I’m glad I waited until I was an adult and fully able to understand all that went on.
I’ve never read this series before but the first book was really enjoyable. I usually hate cliff hanger endings but it completely works for this series book and introduces a bit what is going to happen in the second book. I feel like I’ve learned a little bit about Greek mythology too which is always nice. Definitely a good book for older kids and adults alike! Also, Annabeth is my feminist queen ❤️
For all the hype I’ve seen for this book I’m sad I didn’t enjoy it more. I listened to it on audiobook and I’m so glad I didn’t try to read it normally because I would have called it quits so fast. The audiobook kept me engaged for the most part but I did lose focus sometimes. Definitely didn’t see the twist coming about Cinder being lunar but after that I could see that she was the lost princess from a mile away. I appreciated this story having POC main characters and a fresh take on “Cinderella”. I bought this entire series on sale at one point awhile back so I’m sure I’ll read the rest eventually. Definitely not binge worthy for me though.
I just love the narrator of these audiobooks, he does such a great job with all the different voices! I think I liked book one better, but I am excited to see how Percy’s story continues. I enjoyed the inclusion of Ares’ daughter, Clarisse (as an Aries myself I enjoy her spunk). Definitely appreciated how they gave her the spotlight and she was credited with the return of the fleece over Percy and Annabeth. I also like the vibe between Percy and Annabeth and how it isn’t SO blatantly setting them up to get together. At this point I think it could go either way and I would be okay with either outcome. Oh, and the best minor character in this book? Obviously Rainbow the hippocampus.
I think book three is my favorite so far! I loved all the new character introductions and the tragic endings some of them had. It made it feel less kiddish (even though I know it’s a series for the younger audience). Percy’s narrations absolutely kill me sometimes, the kid is so funny. It is so authentically written as if an actually teenage boy wrote it. Riordan is truly gifted. Annabeths capture had me so stressed I was eager for my queen to come out all right. Im so glad my theory that Bianca and Nico’s dad might be Hades came true. And I hope Bianca can be rescued somehow! I am eager to see how the sort of love triangle between Luke, Annabeth and Percy pans out. And will Grover ever find Pan?! Can’t wait to read the next book!
