I love the world building, but the book is so slow and focused on so many characters I could care less about. I might finish it in the future. I might now.

This is my favorite book in the series so far. It pushed more story lines forward, completed some, and set up others. It feels like a major turning point for Harry and I am excited for what comes next.

The beginning was very interesting and I loved the main character. A different perspective and style for romance and monsters for me. As the book went on the romance between the main characters just didn't make sense to me. The progression of the romance/interest didn't feel real for me. The story/pacing slowed down a ton and I stopped caring what was happening. I may just to the end to see what happens in like the last chapter. But I put it down and haven't picked it up and forgot about it so I'm just marking it dnf.

This Discworld book has been my least favorite so far. The start of the book/plot was good and then fell flat halfway into a lot of actions and characters that didn't have an impact on the story. The story became confusing and it DRAGGED.
The writing is still Terry and it's funny and clever. My favorite parts in this book were descriptions and the little details here and there. Story wise was weak and uninteresting.

Rincewind was back and I missed him. He was great in this and I love his character. I wish his involvement in the finale was better in terms of motivations and actions.

I am not a fan of the writing. There are random world building tangents that seem to take place in random dialogue breaks. I got 23% through and I'm still bored. Sad because a lot of people seem to rave about it. But I'm not drawn in enough to continue.

I love this series so far. BUT this was the most poorly written one out of the first three. There were too many plot lines, less actual detective work and more Harry randomly coming to conclusions that didn't make sense, romance/relationships needed to be more fleshed out to have an impact. Individual scenes and concepts were great. But as a whole I felt confused and pulled all over the place. I hear the series gets better so I'll continue forward. But this one was disappointing sadly 😭

I love the main character, Olivia! 

BUT...This book is definitely YA. I got 60% of the way through and the main story has been very predictable, the horror/thriller elements are not really getting me, certain reveals were not very impactful because it didn't surprise me. For YA, I can see this being a great step into fantasy.

Not as good as the other books. There were storylines that seems unnecessary or could have been shrunk a ton. BUT, pulled on my heart strings for the characters I love.

Glen Cook does a great job of having us care for random, new, side characters. Smeds grew on me over time. Old Man Fish is a bad ass mo-fo. 

First 10 chapters of this book were fantastic with setup, character development, mystery, worldbuilding, and pacing. Then it stopped for the rest of the book. The 2 stars are for a creative concept with the book eaters and setting a fantastic gothic horror tone. As well as some well written scenes. Overall, it fell flat. It was a heavy character driven story, but lacked a lot of character development for me. As well as

wasting a lot of time in the past. Being in the past so often the author wasn't able to build up present tension, character relationships, and tension well enough. The ending was also very predictable.

It felt like you were in a DnD campaign and the party decided to speed run the main objective skipping all cut scenes and side quests of interest.
