Though not entirely perfect or surprising I would recommend this for every vampire fan. Being very subtle may be one of the story's faults but also makes it extremely fascinating for the atmosphere it creates.

Read this for school and wrote an essay that turned out to be my best of that school time. The story is interesting and though there isn't much surprising twists I found it satisfying enough to read about the tribe and the moral issues.

Great twists and turns and the writing made everything vivid as usual but I guess the modern day setting put me a little off, I don't know.

The gathering of all the characters was great but I didn't care too much about the queen story line.

When I read this I was travelling with my parents around Finland and it was the hottest summer in the longest time. From the first page forward I was able to forget the pressing weather and dive into the world of masks and plots of Venice long ago.

Overview on mysterious places, symbolic landscapes, ancient cities and lost worlds around the globe. Got me interested in a couple of places that I could search more information on.

Only skimmed some parts of the book because at times it felt like Golden was underestimating the reader by repeating the same images all over again. The scenes with descriptions of surroundings and emotions seemed pretty on top but empty inside. Nothing seemed sincere. Maybe it was the gap between the author and the character, I don't know. The whole idea of writing with a geisha's voice didn't come across as authentic or interesting.

Ahahaha. Shocked how different the movie is. I cried so much I thought my eyes are going to fall off but reading this I thought my brain were going to fall off from boredom. Not finished.

I was a bit disappointed about how the actual process of painting was told. It was all about colours but nothing of what the painter feels when he paints or does he think anything. Also the characters didn't become whole which probably was the idea but still they didn't intrigue me. However, the story was well put together and the subtlety of the writing made the reading worthwhile.
