I'm not going to leave a full review of this because I don't have a whole lot to say, but let me start by saying I didn't know just how much I wanted to read this until I got the notification that my library hold was available. I jumped on that so fast and started listening to Upright Women Walking within seconds of being able to lmfao
I'm so so happy that I stumbled across this book a few months ago; this isn't my usual genre, and this genre also doesn't pop up on my Goodreads feed too often so I'm not sure how even heard of this one. But I did and I'm very glad I did! This was a very quick read, maybe even a little too quick if I'm being honest. I wouldn't have minded some more time to sit with the characters and really get to know them but I'm ok with how it was. The plot was good, if a little fast paced, again because of how short this book is.
Mainly what I liked is that it was something different for me. I'm very much a YA fantasy kind of person and I really need to branch out once in a while. In all honesty, Upright Women Wanted probably won't stick with me for a super long time, but that's ok. I still loved this book and it definitely got me interested in exploring this genre a bit! And I'll probably keep a look out for any future releases from Sarah Gailey as well

Read for O.W.L.s Magical Readathon - Defense Against the Dark Arts, read a book set at sea/the coast (see my O.W.L.s TBR video here)
This was enjoyable. It's definitely not a favourite, but I can see why it's so well loved. I love the writing style, it's absolutely gorgeous, and the way the story was told was beautiful, especially in the last few chapters.
I think the reason I didn't give it a higher rating is because of Achilles himself. I really didn't like him towards the end, and I know I wasn't really supposed to but it made it hard to get through. He was great in the beginning, I loved his honesty and blunt way of speaking and how he never came across as arrogant. But once his pride set in I had very little desire to read about him, since he was acting so childish. I just didn't understand how Patroclus could still love him that much after all that he had seen him do. After all the temper tantrums, all the murder and raiding, and the choices Achilles made. Patroclus was too quick to forgive, and I think he deserved way better. I don't think Achilles was worth doing what Patroclus did
I did really love Briseis though, she was a breath of fresh air among all the horrors going on around them. I especially loved her for speaking her anger at the end, and someone finally telling Achilles what he deserved to hear
Overall I am glad I read it, but I definitely don't think it's as good as everyone else seems to think it is lol. I would like to read Circe though, if only for the writing style

This was good, but I don’t think slashers translate super well into book form. This would be an excellent movie though!

Such a fun read! Very quick and lighthearted, with lots of giggles throughout. Very glad I finally tried a cozy mystery, and I can’t wait to carry on with the series!

This was just ok. It was really fun, entertaining, and I loved the atmosphere. But the actual plot was really lacking for me. It was painfully obvious from the beginning where the plot was going, not a single thing took me by surprise lmfao. But it was still fun at least!
Anyone who knows me really well must have been extremely confused when they saw I was willingly reading an Agatha Christie novel. After being forced to read The Mysterious Affairs at Styles a few years ago for school and despising it, I vowed to never pick up another Christie book. And yet here we are

Wow, what a bore!
For a thriller, there wasn’t a lot going on. The first 50% of In A Dark, Dark Wood is just an anxiety ridden main character pining after her ex that she hasn’t seen in 10 years. When the “thrills” finally started happening, they were predictable and not very creative in my opinion.
I personally don’t like unreliable narrators, I find it to be extremely annoying and frustrating to read, so I also didn’t enjoy that aspect. And I found that this book wasn’t executed very well; the chapters bounce between Nora when shit was hitting the fan to Nora in the hospital after everything happened. I usually really like when authors do that, but in this case the timing wasn’t right and it made the (very few) moments that actually had me on the edge of my seat completely lose their edge.
Overall, it was a quick read that was mildly entertaining, but not really worth it. I’m still planning on reading her other books though because I do quite like her writing style

This was just. Alright. It wasn’t great, but I didn’t dislike it. It didn’t start picking up until the halfway point, and even then it wasn’t that gripping for me. The plot twist wasn’t that shocking; I didn’t necessarily see it coming but I wasn’t surprised when it did.
It was a fast read, mildly intriguing, but that’s about it. I wouldn’t recommend it but I wouldn’t NOT recommend it you know what I mean?

Well that was... underwhelming. Quinn is super annoying and also REALLY DUMB so I was kind of focused on that the whole time. The plot didn’t really get interesting (save for one or two small things in the middle) until about 85% in. All the plot twists I saw coming from a mile away, including the one at the very end (although that one took me until just before it was revealed, but still). Overall, it was super predictable, the characters were either dumb or flat and boring, and it wasn’t nearly fast paced enough for a thriller. It wasn’t the worst book I’ve ever read but I was definitely expecting more out of it
