In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware
2.0

Wow, what a bore!

For a thriller, there wasn’t a lot going on. The first 50% of In A Dark, Dark Wood is just an anxiety ridden main character pining after her ex that she hasn’t seen in 10 years. When the “thrills” finally started happening, they were predictable and not very creative in my opinion.

I personally don’t like unreliable narrators, I find it to be extremely annoying and frustrating to read, so I also didn’t enjoy that aspect. And I found that this book wasn’t executed very well; the chapters bounce between Nora when shit was hitting the fan to Nora in the hospital after everything happened. I usually really like when authors do that, but in this case the timing wasn’t right and it made the (very few) moments that actually had me on the edge of my seat completely lose their edge.

Overall, it was a quick read that was mildly entertaining, but not really worth it. I’m still planning on reading her other books though because I do quite like her writing style
