I didn't really get it. I liked the concept though. Maybe if I knew more about Napoleon I would have appreciated it more

Everything Hannah Kent writes is phenomenal. I loved this so much.
hopeful inspiring reflective

First third was amazing. Second third had a bit too much name dropping, but also that's clearly part of his life. Final third was good.
It's an amazing life story and is was written in an engaging way and easy to follow.

This just didn't grab me. I'm in a bit of a reading slump though, so might try again in the future

Enjoyed the concept and the way she deals with source material, but I found it difficult to get into because I don't have any prior knowledge of the people or time period. This book is not for beginners.

Will try her book on the Arthurian legend instead

Hilarious, entertaining, and a great mystery with a good ending. Loved it!!

A nice little book. An enjoyable read, really liked the different characters' perspectives. But it felt like the ending was cut short/ not as significant as it should have been

I'm a slow reader but I absolutely flew through that, I couldn't put it down. What an incredible book. This is something very special. Phenomenal work by the author in showing empathy and such deep insight into the characters

I loved the premise and the first half of the book, but it got a bit boring towards the end. Struggled to finish it
Strong character development: Yes

A slow start, took me 250-300 pages to actually get into it... But then I was hooked. Really loved it. It's really immersive writing, very strong world building. Not sure how accurate it is to the history but there is empathy for many characters - you get an insight into most characters' thought processes which is fascinating.
Haven't watched the tv series yet
