Lost in the Future by Damian, published by Papercutz, offers a compelling narrative that flows effortlessly, reminiscent of watching an engaging adult animated series. The storytelling is smooth and keeps you hooked, making it easy to immerse yourself in the world the author has created.
However, what detracted from my experience were the extremely stereotypical characters. The tough guy who bullies nerds, the overweight character whose entire personality revolves around food—even in life-threatening situations—and the nerdy Asian with glasses are all tropes that feel outdated and overused. I was hoping for a fresh take that would break away from these old-fashioned molds, but unfortunately, that wasn't the case.
Despite these shortcomings, the story itself is intriguing enough to keep me invested. My final rating is 2.5 stars, which I’m rounding down because, as someone who values character development, I found this aspect lacking in the novel.
Thank you to Papercutz and NetGalley for providing an advanced reader copy.

I read this just after I finished 'Days at the Morisaki bookshop' which felt quite fitting.
Almond is a book that i will remember being in the same realm as 'Heaven' by and 'The curious incident of the dog in the nighttime'. ALthough I did enjoy the albeit extremely hard to read plotline, I find myself always wanting more of the feelings. And although I think that the main character who has a condition that makes him not feel as the other due to reduced size amydgala in his brain, I still was left with the same lingering feeling after reading a book written and based in Korea or Japan. I felt we just scratched the surface and a lot, so much, so incredibly much is left unsaid. just the scene at the end with G an SF was so so quick we barely get to comprehend what is happening. let alone the main characters' new people in his life after the very first BIG incident. I wanted more. of everything. but happy I read it. important to read. would keep an eye on what the author comes up with next.

not as memorable as I would have liked it to be based on what I had heard of this book prior to me reading it. as most books of this genre and country I tend to feel that there is so much left unsaid so every morsel of feelings portrayed or displayed in some way or other feel enormous in the moment but lack so much at the end of the day, as if everything is being just brushed over the surface. and i always crave for more. which does mean I will be reading the next book in the hopes that we can see some more development of the charactetrs feelings but also of the plotline which was interesting and odd in regards to the characters we followed and their inter relational dynamics.

Best book I have read in a while. 5/5 no question
