It was beautiful.
I listened to the audiobook and then I had to get the physical copy.
Just stunning.
Lana del Ray is a true artist.

Ahh.. I tried. Read a bit more than half. I just didn’t care. I know it’s sad to say as it is about someone’s experiences but there are other books out there and I hate reading because I have to. Not for me sadly. Just putting out there!

This was so heartwarming and wholesome! I mean apart from the dragons, which I love forever and always, and apart from the fact that this is a Christmas book, I genuinely loved the fact that Santa's reindeers only enjoy 'biscuits and sponge cake with hot cups of tea'!!! I did enjoy that it was written in verse, as it flew so well both regarding the story but also when reading it out aloud which is how it is meant to be read in the first place. And then at the end, the inclusion of the recipe for the Podgepickle stew was so so awesome! And vegan too! :D Such a great book, I would definitely want to have it as a physical copy and read it to my little one that is yet to be born. LOVED it and I highly recommend it for the little ones. Just one remark I would like to mention: the text in the book should a be bit bigger and more pleasant for the eye because it was not that easy to read. Thank you Netgalley for this book in exchange for an honest review! A 4,5 star from me!

Such an important history lesson. I cannot thank you enough for educating me on this as I must admit I had not heard of this terrible incident that occurred in Tulsa all these years ago. This picture book shows us the before and after of a racial attack that took place in 1921 and it was hard to read. Hard, but important and so I urge all of you, big and small, to read it and learn about our history. I very much appreciated the author's and illustrator's notes at the end of the book as well as the political and societal context this horrible event took place in. Important. Pungent. Sad. Read it.

Wow. I was not expecting for this graphic novel to make me feel so much and yet it did. Such a good, real, accurate, punch-you-in-gut portrayal of loneliness from how we live our everyday lives, to how hard a simple conversation can become in an attempt to establish an honest connection. (loved page 73 where the main character is reflecting upon his conversation with the plumber who comes over and what it could have been had the right words in the right order had been used.) I really really loved it and would recommend it to everyone who can stomach an exposure to all these raw and real emotions. Trigger warnings: depression, loneliness, hopelessness. I would love to purchase it and I must say I almost never say that for graphic novels.

I am slightly torn on how to review this one.
First of all, I think its strength was the mix of poetry, prose and film photography. That combination certainly elevated this collection considerably.
We get to follow Orion in California and Paris travelling through and with her emotions around her parents and family, her romantic and platonic relationships.
As a 30year old I cringed in some parts that felt too pretentious but I am sure my 20 year old self would have loved. If you enjoy Rupi Kaur's work, then you should definitely check out this one.
But as far as my taste goes when it comes to poetry, I felt that it sometimes felt short on the delivery of the emotions she attempted to convey. As if she was either holding back on revealing her true inner thoughts, or simply mistaking some emotions for something else, less dark than she describes perhaps, although I could very well be wrong.
I must admit I did not know the artist beforehand and apparently she is well known on social media as a public figure so maybe that could be the reason for holding back in fear of exposing too much of her personal life, but as that was not something I was supposed to know beforehand, it did not affect my thoughts on this collection.
Last but not least, I did find some gems in there, like the poems For Caro, Deja Vu, and Naked Orchards while others felt a bit flat for me. Overall, the part I appreciated the most was the one about her parents where one can really feel the buzz and strength of her words. Admittedly, that part felt more real than any other.
