I read this to keep up with the Veronica Mars Investigation podcast. As a fan of the show, this book basically reads like an episode, so in that sense it was enjoyable. However, the noir tropes of crude misogyny and casual ableism where enough to taint my reading experience.

This book lacked a distinct sense of time and place. It's always difficult to write in a child's voice and the style of Jim's narration took me in and out of the experience. The Marie chapters were much stronger, but the ending felt rushed.

A necessary book that does not shy away from playing with the expected format of philosophical monographs.
