A little slower than I think it could be, but interested is piqued! Onto the next one…

Mixed feelings about the back and forth timelines. Felt like parts of the book that were meant to be major weren’t as emphasized and made it bleh.

informative inspiring reflective relaxing slow-paced

Learned a lot and lots of cool facts but slow and technical. The author’s research quality and quantity is incredible (no wonder the bibliography is so long) but at times felt like it could’ve flowed more.

DID NOT FINISH: 16%

Too many side characters and their plots, kinda boring. Was drawn to the reviews about how it’s a book about imperfect people but ultimately too slow. 15% in and not really invested in characters.

“And then there were non” + GOT + hunger games. More YA than expected but engaged enough to keep with the series!

Hit closer to home than I expected. Each character was so well defined and developed, and Ng really highlighted that things are not always as black and white as they seem. So many important themes- adoption and its ethics, poverty, racism, etc.
