I surprisingly loved this book. It was masterfully well-written, and the main characters were all so generally unlikable that it’s insane that I still managed to enjoy it this much.

This was the most unexpected 5 star read for me! The characters from the very BEGINNING are so incredibly lovable, and I was pleasantly surprised by the plot, as well! The twist at the end was *chef’s kiss*! I also adored the world building. I just LOVED this book, and I’m so glad I picked it up!!

I… did not like this book. It was unnecessarily long-winded, pretty dry, and just not what I expected after reading the Road. The writing was gorgeous, as usual, but it felt like reading Steinbeck in McCarthy’s prose. Just. Not good.

I adored this book. My only big gripe is that it just wasn’t long enough! I could read an entire series of whatever world Max Brooks writes in - he managed to make both a Rainier explosion AND Sasquatch feel very, very real.

If I could give this book 6 stars, I would. This is my favorite book of his that I’ve read, and made the other two books both pale in comparison and somehow managed to elevate them. The follow through on this trilogy is insane. I know everyone talks about Sanderson as being pretty incredible with his plots and world building, but no loose ends? Holy SHIT. I am literally blown away by how perfect this was. This might be one of my only 5 star reads where I genuinely wouldn’t change a damn thing.

I actually really enjoyed this book, much more than I was expecting. It got into the plot pretty quickly, was very exciting, and I LOVED our cast of characters.

This one was actually SO good, but it takes a minute to really get into. There’s not as much balance between action and exposition that there could be, but the last 200 pages are absolute fucking insanity.

This is a very interesting philosophical take on the Warrior Ethos by a scholar of infamous warrior cultures such as Sparta and Macedonia. I find the book to be an easy to read with concepts phrased as simply as possible, and very reflective. Overall, a great, quick read!

This book was insane start to finish. I usually give horror books about half their length to really get good - yknow, build up is essential and all that jazz. But this? Batshit crazy from page one to page 355. Jesus.
