I've never read a Brubaker/Phillips comic that I didn't enjoy and Night Fever is no exception. It's much darker than a lot of their previous work, with themes of shadow selves and baser natures. The art and colors are outstanding, as always. Strong 4 stars.

I had a lot of fun with this short and nasty book. You'll meet some of the most frightening middle schoolers ever. I read the book in two settings and found it compulsively readable. This is a pretty impressive first novel. 3.75 stars, rounded up.

I didn't enjoy this book at all. I had high hopes after My Unbeating Heart, but this book doesn't do it for me.

Whew! This delightfully macabre book wasn't at all what I thought it would be. I went into it semi blind, having read the synopsis when the Books of Horror Indie Author Brawl was announced. I love it when a book can surprise me, and this one absolutely did. It was like a trainwreck you can't look away from. The perfect book to finish up my Brawl reads. Strong 5 stars.

This book is really cool in concept and grand in scope. Ultimately, it didn't quite hit the mark for me. The real star of the show is the artwork. The poems aren't bad, but the themes were incredibly repetitive. I definitely recommend listening to a soundtrack of neurofunk, industrial, and the blackest metal.

Space horror is one of my favorite subgenres. The concept of visiting another planet and meeting an alien species is creepy as hell to me. I went into this novella semi-blind and I'm glad that I did. I was also excited to hear that this is the first in a series of planned stories set in the same world. I'm eager to read those as well.
