Neil Gaiman is an incredible writer, and an equally incredible narrator. He manages to capture the nature of his words incredibly, and as a fan of his books, I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for books of his that he narrates. Absolutely adored this audiobook, probably one of my favourites ever listened to.

Although I was really enjoying the book to begin with, I felt like my enjoyment levels sank as the novel progressed. I felt the pacing was awfully slow, which made the book feel like it was dragging along. I also felt that some of the characters were quite 2D. On top of that, the plot, although brilliant in concept, felt unexplored in crucial areas, which made it feel overly complicated and thinly layered with overwritten depth.
I think the book could best be described as part adventure novel, part travel log and part list of destinations. I think this novel was a good example of why “Show not Tell” is an important rule, as it completely tells and barely shows.
Lastly, I feel like every medium-scale conflict in the book was miraculously solved, either by chance (in the style of the “Deus ex machina” trope), or bribery. These two tropes were used to excess, which irritated me whilst reading, as I felt that everything had fallen together a bit too perfectly for my tastes.
Overall, I felt it was a decent book, but not one I would re-read in the future. I have to say, this seems like a time when the film is better than the book (cough cough the 2004 movie).

i’m not sure how to rate this, but i definitely enjoyed the art style more when it was coloured, compared the the other heartstopper books.
definitely a nice easy read.
definitely a nice easy read.
I can’t exactly pinpoint my opinion on this book, as a lot of these quotations and musings are amazing, whilst another load of them feel hypocritical and/ or sexist, which really ruined the feel of the book to me. On top of that, a lot of Oscar’s quotations reflect a more cynical outlook on life, which doesn’t match my own outlook, so I couldn’t relate or connect to this book much, as I didn’t agree with many of the opinions. This book is definitely not of my taste, however it is a very subjective collection.
AD // gifted. Thank you so much to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free digital review copy. Lovely storyline, and lovely artwork. I breezed through this book in two sittings. The plot was very well-rounded, and I enjoyed the characters. I felt this book was an easy read, and would recommend reading it if you are in a reading slump. Very much so would re-read.
