Neat background into Vulcan society and Sarek and Amanda's relationship, but somewhat marred by occasionally clumsy writing and too many exclamation points. Also, though it's unrelated to the content, the cover of my edition (Spock aiming a gun of some type that doesn't seem to be a phaser at a lizard beastie) bears absolutely no relation to the events of the book.

Born from the same preliminary discussions that eventually spawned Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, and sharing many of the same overall themes, but telling a very different story. Not bad.

This book eats people, as my girlfriend has been saying. Sucked me in, and didn't want to let me go -- I finished it today over two stints totaling roughly five hours or so. Lots of fun (well, you know, the Stephen King blood-drenched kind of fun).

Not as humorous as I remember [b:Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil|386187|Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil|John Berendt|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1174355740s/386187.jpg|300461] being, but [a:John Berendt|4952|John Berendt|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1204661056p2/4952.jpg] still does a wonderful job of combining mystery, history, and quirky characters in this recounting of his time in Venice. A beautiful book about a beautiful city.

The first I've read from the Temperance Brennan series. Took some time to get used to Reichs' writing. Lots of short sentences, declarative statements. Brief. Choppy. But enjoyable. Wouldn't mind reading more in the future if I come across them.
