I've never read a book with more words that aren't needed than this book.
Awesome first chapter book series. It's also SO MUCH BETTER to read aloud than another popular first chapter book series. It flows much, much better when reading it to a child. He could read this on his own, but for bedtime prefers I read to him. Good little adventure book.
Another one that hit it out of the park from McMahon.
I was allowed to read the e-arc via NetGalley, and I am so glad I was.
I've read the horror genre since I was 9 years old (Stephen King), putting it at just shy of 27 years as my favorite genre. There is almost nothing that creeps me out anymore, though I still thoroughly enjoy some good horror fiction. The Drowning Kind is the first book I've read in a very, very long time where while reading it in the dark I thought to myself, "Uhhhh...I have made a grave error."
Blurring the lines between paranormal and reality the author expertly keeps you guessing until the very end.
This was a wonderfully immersive (see what I did there??) experience full of atmosphere and a dual timeline that keeps you on your toes.
Easily a 5 star read from this fellow Vermonter.

This might have benn slower than watching paint dry for like...95% of the book. Not for me.
I read this via E-ARC on Netgalley.
This is a case of "not for me", I think. I can see why people would enjoy this book but I ended up a confused mess between what's right now and what's in the past. This isn't normally an issue for me but for this book it was.
The writing style also wasn't my cup of tea. I found it to be a bit detail specific but at the same time lacking any sort of character depth. Sure, I know every item of clothing the character is wearing but I don't really know anything about THEM. There are a lot of details, just not about the things that mattered to me.

This one wasn't my favorite. It was okay, but Jack and Jill aren't my preferred characters.
