I read this via Netgalley E-ARC. Point of note, I managed to miss that this was book #3 in a series, oops?

That said, this was an entertaining and fast-paced read and I didn't feel like I missed anything having not read the first two books in the series.

I rated it 3.5 stars because while it was fast-paced and engaging it wasn't quite what I expected going in. The medical stuff was enough to keep my attention, and while the characters didn't feel particularly rich I did care about them enough to wonder what was going to happen and keep reading!

All in all, a solid book and probably even better if you have read the rest of the series!

Absolutely adored this book. If you're into horror movies it vibes somewhere between The Blair Witch Project and M. Night Shyamalan's The Village. It's incredibly atmospheric and full of intrigue.

Told through dual timelines, it tells the story of a small, isolated village where all the residents suddenly vanish leaving behind just a newborn baby and a dead woman on a pole in the town square.

It's hard to review without giving spoilers but this was a stellar read and I highly recommend it!

I know some people say this book was slow in places but I feel like the "slow" parts are needed to make the horror that much more horrific. It doesn't shy away from tough descriptions and is really well written. I can't quite place which author the writing reminds me of but it very familiar feeling, in a good way. I haven't read from this author before, so it's not that!

I really enjoyed this one. I hadn't planned on reading it, but I did.

PS: I listened to the audiobook and it was well narrated.
