2.5 stars. I wanted to love this but it felt awfully forced. I spent most of the book waiting for *something* to happen.
I am not sure how to review this without being a jerk, but the whole thing just felt like “inspiration porn”. I get the point it’s trying to make, be kinder than necessary, but everything about it felt too one dimensional and like it’s just there to make able-bodied people feel good about themselves for having read it. *shrug*
3.25 stars, maybe 3.5.
It read a lot like a final book in a 4 book series that had a LOT to tie up. I kept reading/finished because I wanted to know how it ended but I feel like it could have been like at least 100 pages shorter.
It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t great.

2.5 stars. I finished it because I wanted to see what happened but at no point did I ever feel thrilled, as one is generally supposed to, during a thriller.
It ended up feeling like a big game of thriller trope bingo. Not my favorite.

Absolutely everyone should read this, especially white people. Wonderfully done. My kids will be reading it shortly.
**Reread April 2019 via audible with my 10 and 12 year old. They got a lot out of it and I am so glad it’s there and so well done for them to listen to.
