Had a perfectly good time with this book. It's absolutely YA so go into it knowing that, which I did. 

This is not for me.

This was slower to start than Firekeeper's Daughter. It was a good book and admittedly that's a hard book to follow. It did feel a little....busy? Like too many things trying to be featured all at once but absolutely worth the read.

That was....not great? For a book about being superficial it just was awfully surface level. 

Also, billing this as "dystopian" isn't a smart choice. It's not that, it's giving cult. 

There's also a lot of terrible behavior that's just...straight up ignored?? Baffling choices.

Had good potential. Pacing was a little weird and the interludes were hard to follow sometimes. But overall, a good read.

This started out excellent but I got bothered/annoyed by all the crush talk toward the middle/end. I was reading with my 9 year old and he absolutely checked out around that topic too.

I am absolutely mind-boggled that this is a debut novel. This was everything I could have wanted it to be. Immersive, wonderful characters, beautifully written. It is rare that I find fantasy that feels so accessible. 

I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was amazing as well. I will be purchasing a copy for my “forever shelf”. 

I say all this as a nearly 40 year old person, very far from the YA target audience. This book is amazing and you should read it.
