Let's put it this way: I read this book because I committed to reading it. Otherwise I would have stopped nearly immediately. The moment the author compared the main character's smaller breasts due to starvation to her pre-pubescent breasts, I was done.

For an assassin, Celaena did not come across brave or even spirited. She was immature and annoying. In fact, I didn't much care about any of the characters through most of the book. The perceived love triangle had no depth to it, neither did her friendship with Nehemia.

Worse so, the narrator for the audiobook completely struck a nerve with me, making it even less enjoyable. Sad, because it's an ongoing series I thought I could get into.

I read Kate’s horror book this year and can agree - horror has nothing on IRL survivalist. This book kept me gripped till the end. I’m in for whatever Kate is writing!

My brand of book is definitely Katie McGarry's brand of breaking characters until they can't be broken anymore...and then taking it one step further.

I found the story to be uncompelling, the characters to be a bit boring, the romance fell flat, and the only thing worth reading in this story is the last few pages. Won’t be picking up the sequel.

TE Carter writing the tough subjects. This was a great look at how we treat people who are connected to horrific things by no fault of their own.

I’m loving these canon stories! It was great to see Hopper outside of Hawkins, and to see him bond with Eleven. I think I cried a bit every time he talks about them being family.

Pretty slow to start but the ending picks up and I was completely engaged. This is a romance-free Jedi story. The best part is the narration by Jonathan Davis - his Liam Neeson & Ewan McGregor are spot on. I had to double check if they had joined the cast!

Told in alternating perspectives, we see two people falling for each other over a year, culminating around 4 parties. This book was character driven and checked every box for realistic fiction. I didn't go into this book thinking it would become a favorite this year but here we are. Wow, what a stunning story. I absolutely could not put this book down.

FINALLY finished this one. Wow, what an incredibly journey of self discovery, family, culture, and love!

I’m totally bummed that this one was “just ok”.
