One of the best things I ever did for myself was buy this book before I listened to it because now I own this beauty. SO FREAKING GOOD.

I wanted to like this book but there were several big problems that could have been handled differently.

The Program, but sub the patriarchy for suicide.

I need to unpack my thoughts...

(I mostly don’t think murder is the solution ever)

Grace and Fury is like Handmaid's Tale crossed with Red Queen crossed with The Selection, with a side of Kiss of Deception. The first 85% is slow world and character building and the real action happens in the last 15%. Predictable but enjoyable and I will read the next book.

If you like Jennifer E. Smith, you’ll love this! I appreciate how authentic this was and how sexism was approached by the adults. More of this, please!

Too much telling, not enough showing. Also I rolled my eyes a lot. I loved the last run - this one, not so much.

TW: Sexual, physical, and emotional abuse. DV.

I finished this book and while it was well written, I’ll never read another book by this author due to the lack of trigger warning. I should not have stepped into a story where the MC experiences nearly the same abuse I did, by a man with the same name. It’s irresponsible.

I’m not sure what I expected but what we got is a retelling of season 2 through Max’s narrative (which anyone could have gotten from watching the show) and a little bit of backstory. Nothing was added to the canon of the show that felt important.

This book better win all the damn awards this year. Full review to come!
