"They’ll feel us in every corner of this country."
Not what I was expecting. I thought it would solely be from Ella’s perspective. Instead, we get some spotlight on police brutality, white terrorism, inhumane conditions for the incarcerated, class issues, how Black women often get mistreated in healthcare and childbirth, etc. And man is this New York dudes. Talk about excessive use of the N-word. It’s a lot of their first word for sure.
Anywho, I wish I could have liked this better, but I wanted to know more about Ella and less about Kev. I would’ve loved to see Ella go Killmonger, but alas it wasn’t meant to be. I did like seeing justified anger.

This story really had to grow on me. For the longest it was just horrid bullying done by fairies until some deviously decadent court politics. Surprisingly, the real world still plays a part here.
One of the absolute best parts is the father-daughter relationship between Madoc and Jude. I enjoyed Madoc a lot. He was like a snake; in which, snakes aren't inherently good or evil, but they are always going to do snake things like bite, hiss, or potentially poison you to death. And yet in a twisted way Madoc loved his family with all his heart.
Also, I liked Oriana. At first, she seems as if she's just fulfilling the evil stepmother role or at least a disinterested one, but no she was much more.
I was unmoved by the daughters. Vivi may have been the best. I can't decide whether Taryn is a spineless wimp or overly ambitious. Jude I felt nothing for neither in strong dislike or like.
But this is truly enemies to lovers. I'm ambivalent about if I want to read book two or not. I don't think I have ever seen fairies portrayed this darkly or gruesome before. Interesting.

Of course, cute and lighthearted as you would expect. But I do wish it would break the status quo occasionally.

I think "Impostors" stood out the most from this bunch.

It takes a while to get acquainted with the writing style but not bad at all. Insta-lovey. Kindness is not a weakness (and I love that it's shown as a strength here), but, at times, the female MC felt subservient to a fault. Male mc was a bit self-absorbed and whiny but entertaining. It was always so satisfying when Kamran realized he didn't know everything. There are also some nice plot twists here and there.
You’ve to eat your vegetables to get to the good stuff. But I’ll read book two.

I love how lighthearted and relatable the humor is. The 20's lifepath comic is one of those "it's funny because it's painfully true." The cute art style also adds a certain charm.
